I know there has been discussion about engine number vs frame/body number, and how they are not necessarily correlated. I recalled my motor matched a number, stamped somewhere on the frame.

I was detailing my engine compartment today and found the engine number stamped on top of the coil bracket right next to where it is welded to the frame structure, same font size and font style as the fame/registration number stamped on the opposite of the engine compartment.

Engine: 00537, number stamped on coil bracket: 537. I call that a match.

Number stamped on coil Bracket is the assembly number.

That would be an odd coincidence but as above coil bracket is the Build or Assembly number

    Maybe i got lucky.
OTOH, the first number could be a 3 (as in 337), or a 5, as it is not fully formed.
I like my story, better, anyway. :)

337 should be a June 78 door plate with an engine around 4XX (deducted from the cars around but take conditional)
537 should be a October 78 door plate with an engine around 6XX (same comment).
do you have your serial by chance ?
if you want to be sure about your assembly number, it is also stamp on the left inside edge of both lid (front and rear), you don't have to take any part off.
