My 355 always sounded loud to me, but being a Ferrari rookie what do I know? In the garage you really can't have a conversation while it's idling...so tonight I started digging into my clutch replacement, and lo and behold my rusty exhaust says 'Tubi Style - Competition'. Woohoo! I mean I thought it sounded great, but just figured it was the 355 sound that everyone talks so much about. No clue when it was installed, but it is rusty. Exhaust tips are all tarnished. Any Fchatters polished their tips before? :) (please, keep this to exhaust tip discussion!!!)

And are there different Tubi exhausts - street, competition, etc? Or are they all the same? And just for fun what's the going price?

Tubis are stainless. How would you have rust on it?!

Stainless can still rust, it's just more resistant. Checking out Tubi's site they only use 304 which is decent but not great. It's not flaking or anything, just surface corrosion.

You can polish the tips. Get Flitz or some Mother's metal compound. Plan on spending about an hour to get them looking good.

i dont think thats a tubi, but i may be wrong. tubi mufflers for a 355 have [ 355 ] etched [ cut in ] in the brackets.

So it's a fake? I can see the "style" lettering throught the corrosion.

This car went between New England and Fla - maybe salt air by the shore and road salt!!! Actually the undercarriage and suspension are fine. Maybe this has been on for 30k+ miles and seen lots of heat. That metal tab says 'Tubi Style for Competition'.

That is one beat up looking muffler. Please post picks after you bead blast it. Will the shine come back? I have a Tubi and my car sees some rain and still looks perfect. I think the stainless is very resilient. Not sure what that one has been exposed to?

May be an older version of when the Tubi first came out for the 355 or something, but like others have said I have seen many Tubi's and that does not like like the newer versions...I have also seen stainless steel get nasty looking and get surface rust but never that bad....Maybe that salt air did a nasty job to it....But it is def. not stock--

It does look identical to the new one listed on the Carobu link posted by jayz, except for the rust *S* There is more rust on top which could mean sitting outside more...but also more on the inlet tubes which could just mean higher temps.

The upgraded exhaust on my STi is doing the same thing...was just heat tinted for a while, now has rust forming in some areas. Maybe it was just done 7-8 yrs ago...

Here are some pics of a used TUBI 360 system, they seem to age the same way as the 355 sytems after they are driven, I believe one of the reasons is the type of stainless that Tubi uses, which is 304.

Capristo uses 309 which seems to keep its luster, but is much more expensive in cost, it does turn gold & blue in areas, but we have seen no rusting. The 4th picture below is of a 360 Capristo system that has been on a car for over 3 years that has been driven hard, there is no sign of pitting or rusting, it was sent back to the factory for the new mounting bracket design that uses the isolators, as this system was one of the first Capristo 360 systems built, it says "360 Modena" (Capristo was asked not to use that name on their 360 mufflers by Ferrari) The 5th picture is the same Capristo system, re polished with the new mounting brackets that will be retuned back to the client so it can be re installed on his car. Looks almost like new in my opinion.

Also with respect to heat, the 304 is good to 680C°, but the 309 stainless is good to 1050C°

Here's my Tubi cleaned up by glass bead blasting. Not shiny anymore, but corrosion is all removed. Despite how it looks in the pic, there's no distortion of the metal. The cleaning was a bit uneven...I realized this is just under the car anyways and will discolor after a few hard runs!

Looks good! I never had any trouble with my stainless steal exhaust but I will say that New England gives cars a beating. Whether it's the weather or the horrible roads.
