That's right, there are no McLaren F1s in HK. They did promote it here back in the 90s, but there were no takers.

There are currently no McLaren F1 in HK, (because of the center seat)... they are considering importing them within the next few years.

there are three seats in the mclaren...
one facing forward on the right, set back about 2 feet...
the other on the left side, set back about 2 feet...
then the other is in the center, in front of the others...
    thus, a center seat...
check out interior pics and you will understand.

My question is are you saying that no one in HK has one BECAUSE of the center seat?? If thats the case, then I don't understand why all the LHD exotics can run around with the T-plates and the Mclaren can't?

    that's part of it...
it's basically down to the company saying "if we import this and spend X amount of dollars to do so, will anyone buy it for the hefty price tag (1,000,000 USD + tax)?
however, there is a demand for some and they will be importing them because of law changes (regardign the center seat)
Same thing went for Pagani... very expensive and they finally imported 2 (however 1 crashed, a black one) now all that is left is a silver Pagani Zonda :'(

So basically, its more like because of the lack of demand, rather than the law restricting them from being imported.

Why would "interested buyers" need to pay tax? Can't they use T plates like the others? I am also interested in the law regarding to the center seat.. do you have more details on that?

BTW, i think the zonda that crashed was silver.
You are talking about this one right?

Actually, there are 2 more Zondas in HK. One is owned by a toy factory owner and the other is by a friend. Both silver. I wonder, sh4m, if you and I both know the same owner. Is your friend's Zonda in HK Island or in the New Territories?

Tamka, recently I haven't seen my friend take his Zonda out for a few weeks on Sunday drives, because of some work he was doing on it. But, he did take it out several times previously on Sunday drives. So, if you want to see it out, your best chances are early Sunday mornings (7AM or so) on the stretch of road from Repulse Bay to Shek O.

As far as the law importing cars such as Zonda is concerned, it did take a long time for my friend to get his Zonda registered, even though it was a right-hand drive model. For some reason, the HK government was very picky about emissions and noises, etc.

Ahh....I see. The family is in the news quite often. No wonder your friend's Zonda doesn't come out often. The family has like 30-something cars. My friend's Zonda is on the HK side. I, myself, live out in the NT. Do you go out on Sunday AM drives?
