I finally got my first Ferrari! I know it is only a 328 but it is a start. Purchased a 1986 Red/Nero 328-GTS from about an hour north of Detroit, and drove it home. After almost 600 miles half day - half night and a little rain, I think I know what I have now. Seems to pull strong and drive straight. The AC is a little anemic as is the norm I guess. A couple of small issues but so far I am pretty happy! It has 34,000 miles and just had a major service done at Cauley Ferrari in DTW. It was licensed in Chesterfield MO in 1991. I live only about 15 miles from there in Lake St. Louis, MO. The last guy owned it in Michigan for the past 15 years. I look forward to meeting you all and joining the Ferrari Club in STL, as I have lots of questions, like where to get a key made, where to buy AGIP oil, etc. I am on vacation with the family in Myrtle Beach S.C. right now but just got the email about C&C in STL this Saturday. I will break the news to the family tomorrow that we need to leave one day early so I can be there. Will let you know how they take it............................. Kim Pearson Lake St. Louis, Missouri
Bet you won't sleep 'till it and you are home. How fun to share that with your family. Congrats. Don't forget about pictures..lots of pictures. Pictures are like crack for this forum. Enjoy.
I was highly offended by this part. ONLY a 328?! Congrats on the purchase. I need pictures. I'm in the market for a 328 and I enjoy looking at them.
Here are a few pictures of my new ride. It is tucked away in the garage in STL while I drove 16 1/2 hours in two SUV's with my kids and grandkids to the beach. I hear it is too hot in St. Louis this week to drive around with the top off anyway. Setting heat records all week they say. Lets hope it cools off some by Saturday. Thanks for all the good wishes and I am sure I will be asking questions as I learn more about it. Kim Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Kim, Congrats on the 328, looks nice...you are right, it's really hot here this week (typical St. Louis weather). I went for a drive through the back roads of Chesterfield this evening in my '83 308QV (if you ONLY have a 328, I must be bottom of the barrel...haha)..it was 92 degrees...a little cooler in the valley....we have a pretty good ferrari group around here that tries to get together for drives etc....just check out the MO pages below to see when we are getting together....oh, and this weekend is the WACO fly-in at Creve Coeur so there is something else for you to do this weekend.....
congrats. Replace the York piston compressor with a Sanden 508 rotary a/c compressor. My 328 will freeze me until I am numb, starting at the right knee cap. Sometimes its best to replace the expansion valve also when upgrading the system.
Good luck with your new to you 328 and I hope you get past the feeling of its 'only a 328'. I've had conversations with certain people and they have asked me what model of Ferrari I want and when I reply 308 they say well thats a good start. My reply is its a start and a finish a 3x8 is a fantastic car that any owner should be proud to have.
Kim, Welcome to the group with your 328. Look forward to you joining us with the St. Louis group of the FCA http://www.fca-mo.org/fca-mo/default.aspx You just missed the Frontenac Show where there were 22 Ferraris in the display area. See the Regional area of Ferrari Chat to see photos from that. Here is the event schedule. We are trying to keep track of what the Kansas City, Indianapolis and Chicago groups are up to. http://www.fca-mo.org/fca-mo/events/default.aspx I will be working with Randy Gori on an event in July at a restaurant & wine bar in Edwardsville. Be in touch with St. Louis Motorsports to ensure you are on their distribution for the C&Cs. Jeff
"Replace the York piston compressor with a Sanden 508 rotary a/c compressor" If the York is broken, replace with with the Sanden - it's quieter/smoother/takes less power; otherwise refurbish the rest of the system. As far as ac performance is concerned, the York is not an issue; it cooled cars that the 328 would fit inside.
Grrr...Like others, this didn't sit well with me. I guess my 308 is a lesser car. Maybe you should have saved your money until you could purchase a real Ferrari. Ok, I'm done ranting...for now. Congrats on the purchase...enjoy it. Hopefully, you will come to realize that the 3X8 line is timeless...and not ONLY a 3X8. My 308 was never intended to be a "start", but a realized dream.
Rather than answer privately I think a quick reply here will keep everyone who was kind enough to reply to my post in the loop. Now I feel really bad that I said "only a 328"! Trust me IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN I look forward to seeing your 308-QV. I had a plane based at Creve Coeur when I first moved out there from S.C. in 1994, when I flew for TWA, and later build a helicopter in a hangar out there. I will have to try to catch up to our Church group motorcycle ride later Saturday so may not make it out to the airport. The family are giving me a little heartache about leaving early so I may have to drive all night again. One of the 308/328's I looked at had the Sanden (from Texas right) compressor. I had nothing to compare it to so I did not know if it was better or not. Might be interested in getting that. Would have been nice to have had for the drive from DTW on a 95* day though. I think I will drive the car almost always on nice days with the top stowed most all of the time. Thanks for the links to the STL sections Jeff! I have been lurking on the ichat site for a while now but have been looking on the STL spotters page and 308/328 site most of the time. Will see you all on Saturday I hope. Kim
I, too, am looking for my first. Probably a 308GT4 or an early Mondial. Enjoy the ride!! I'm an import auto locksmith and can help with the key if needed. Steve vwcarlocks{AT}hotmail.com
Congrats and welcome to the Owners Club!!!! No more comments about your "slip" you got enough razzing about it. PDG
Just picked up a 328 as my first as well - congrats to us both I guess! It's pretty darn good isn't it?!
You will not believe it, but I was bidding against you on the 328 in Toronto! I had talked to Peter 3 times about it. He was selling it with no reserve as well as his T/R as he had bought a Lamborghini. You beat me out by $100 at the last minute. How did you do that??????? Now we are both happy!! Good Luck.
