Newb needs advice on 1st Ferrari Purchase I have decided to make the 360 spider plunge and need some help. I've been thinking 2001 or 2002 and like the silvers. I think i want daytona seats, challenger grills and F1 tranny. I found one during a search that I really like with the exception of the wheels - not wild about polished. Please give me your thoughts on the car, fair price and the dealer and any info if you know the car or dealer. It is now listed on EBay and here is the link www.vanbibberexotics.com/show.php?id=1&p=25&page=1&srt=make%20ASC http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/New-Condition-Low-miles-and-loaded-Stunning-360_W0QQitemZ180049288194QQihZ008QQcategoryZ84156QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem I have read the prior posts about the S.F. deal. Thanks for your help!
Please ! Get an independent inspection by a knowledgeable Ferrari mechanic. When I bought my 360 the inspection revealed the hydraulics for the convertible top had a slight leak. $3500.00 and also the clutch had very little life left $4000.00 I 've heard sob stories so many times. " I didn't get an inspection because the car looked good and I didn't want to mess up the deal or insult the seller or there was already someone else interested and I had to move fast". A $300 to $500 inspection could save you thousands of dollars, tons of time and lots of heartache. Regards Stew
FYI, Last week, I went to a store in Malibu that sells Ferrari stuff to buy my daughter a hat and saw a silver/black 2001 360 Spider F1 w/approx 7,000 miles that was sitting in their showroom. It was on a consignment. I believe the ASKING price was $159,000 which seemed like a really good deal. It was in decent condition, with a few dings, and scratches on the lower portion of the bumper. It had been scraped quite a bit, due to no skid plate. It didn't seem like the owner cleaned it before putting it in the showroom, or it had been sitting there for some time as it had a lot of dust (interior and engine compartment). If you think you might like to investigate further, let me know and I will try to dig up my receipt with their info. James
I dont know anything about the dealer, never had anything to do with them, but that car is way over priced. Simple things in the terminology of the "ad" give them away, Things like "rare color combo" reads, "unpopular color combo" Send me a PM of what you want ,and how much you really want to spend and i will sent you links to all the cars available in that range, then go make your deal!
Most people will NOT like that color combo IMHO. If you like it, great! It looks like a 160-165 car if everything checks out including the 30K service- belts changed.
A '02 with 8800 for $160-165? Im interested in knowing what you guys all paid for your cars. Everytime I see a response like this, I wonder where you found your cars and how...I just think there are no good deals on good cars but plenty of deals on "not so good" cars.
Thanks for your thoughts - any additional would be appreciated. I'm having a friend look at the car next week. He's a long time friend and car nut - German taste, but he has a good eye. I'll let you know how things work out.
Car is overpriced by at least $10k more like $15k. Continue your search. Also, you should look at 2002's not 01's. They had several updates and are a more sought after car. Make sure to get a PPI ( PRE-POINT INSPECTION) as previously mentioned. Try to buy a car that has just had the major service done. Expect to pay for a 5,000-9,000 mile 2002 clean car $160-$170k. Not some weird color like the one above. For that take off $10k My thoughts and good luck Mike
pcgolbal, I am sending my 2002 spider to the Ferrari dealer on consignment w/5000 miles and almost all options in red/tan and our asking price is going to be $169,950 and this is a perfect car with no stories. Look around, there are good deals out there if you know the real market. Al
For about 7% less after the car leaves the dealer and returned to the owner $158,000 instead of $169,000----don't you think? Best
