Yesterday, I was in my office, working at the computer. The phone rang, it was TS. During our conversation, he inquired quite deeply into my post-accident physical condition, (I was involved in a serious car accident recently, no not the Ferrari). I guess that he heard of my misfortune, and dire financial straits from a source, at this time, unknown to me. I confirmed that among other problems my knees now required surgery and that my right wrist was broken (I can't operate a clutch or shift a manual trans). He initially seemed genuinely concerned about my plight, then he suggested that while in surgery they may actually wind up having to amputate (which he said, according to his ortho surgeon friend, often occurs) and expressed what he described as his "deepest heartfelt sympathy."

Then the real reason for his call became quite apparent, describing it as a humanitarian gesture, he made a insultingly lowball offer for the purchase of my '69 365 2+2 ($7,000 if the the books, documentation and complete/original tool kit were included). He indicated that this would be an overly generous offer, was his top price and would only be good for the remainder of the day. He then pressured me to make an immediate decision, while we were on the phone.

Just where the hell does this guy get off?

I am surprised that he didn't offer to perform the "possibly necessary" amputation himself, and then deduct the charge for his grizzly "service" from the offer!!!

This guy must have links to ambulance chasers that monitor the police scanners and then sort out who are the owners of vintage Italian cars so he can contact them or their widows, in order to wrest their prized treasures from their frozen grip.

It would seem the Grim Reaper is a good bit closer to warm and fuzzy!!!

Bill, I'm sorry you are injured. May I ask what happened? Surgeons can do wonders nowadays - if anyone wants to amputate ANYTHING, get a second opinion, then a third.

One of my patients was told he needed an amputation 40 years ago...he didn't, and looks great! Amputations nowadays are primarily for folks with severe atheroschlerosis or long term diabetes...

Also, if you ever need significant medical care - always go to Northwestern or Univeresity of Chicago...NOT a smaller hospital!

    Good luck!

Bill - just out of curiousity, is there a typo in your previous post? Does it run and drive? I find it hard to believe anyone would offer $7k for a 365gt 2+2 with books and tools....maybe that price was JUST for the books and tools, not the car? That would actually be a more than generous offer....What was the revised offer in the PM Tom refers to?

    Tom,
First of all, I could tell how really sorry you were, when you made that first offer. Not that I expect charity in car dealings, but now your enhanced offer of $7250.00 certainly does nothing to peak my interest in selling my baby to you.

I am comforted to know that you regularly handle wire money transfers to your Ferrari "friends" in the hospital. TRULY THOUGHTFUL!!!

I am hoping this thread will turn out to be some kind of sick joke. If not, it certainly shows one TS in a very poor light.

Are you bidding on the hand? Low budget Horror movies will often pay a few bucks for body parts. Also those who try to shake down Fast Food Chains often will pay a fair amount for a finger.

Okay, I'm really confused. A 69 365 for $7250? With insults flying the price is accepted????

Anyone want to part with a 246 in trade for a near top condition 72 TC Europa?

Got the car? Good on you!!! I miss my ex-Livanos 365gt (#13141) - let me know if you want to sell this one - as always a cash money buyer - or if any of the parts will fit on my 365bb if you decide to cut it up (I need good 3 eared knock-offs)! :) No matter what anyone else says, you have always done right by me,

    Your friend,

    Alex

You're--lucky?-- you got a call from Tom at all. I've called him, $$$ extended, about hard to find items and he has never returned a call or email. I suspect if I called him offering up my car he would be on it like a rat on cheese.

Tom - Seriously, I need a light switch/turn indicator assemble for my 365 GTS. The switch/ turn indicator has been hanging off the steering column for years and I have to use a piece of aluminum foil placed between the contacts to turn on the lights. My Wife is getting nervous when we drive the car at night since the foil can dislodge. I don't want to end up in the hospital and I wont sell the GTS as a part car.

I'm sure that a light switch/turn indicator assembly would recoup 8%, or so, of your hypothetical $7000.00 part car purchase. Sincerely needing a part, MD

    Tom, old friend,
I am having second thoughts, despite your helpful and highly enlightened comments, I decided to double-check with my Dr's, (not that they or I, do not respect the medical knowlege and expertise of your advisor/surgeon friends) but in my specific case, they have expressed a dissenting opinion, stating that there would be only a slight or no possibility of the need for amputation. I guess that what second opinions are for.

So as a friend, can we drop the hard business mode?

Please release me from the contract.

I have sought legal counsel, and have been informed that I may have legal recourse in that, I may not have been in a legally responsible frame of mind to enter into contractual agreements (due to the I-V Demerol and Morphine) and any reasonable judge or jury would most likely nullify the contract that you coerced me to sign.

So, I beseech you to release me from this contract, let me keep my beloved "Ruby" and let's avoid what seems likely to be lengthy and expensive legal proceedings.

My attorney is filing suit locally today, and has said that this would require you (or your representation) to appear before the Illinois, Cook County Circuit Court for resolution.

How much is this worth to you?

Please, let us settle this amicably.

    Bill
