Bus for school didn't show up this morning. Ran younger son over to school in 308. I'm in 2nd gear doing ~20-25mph, but with engine revs up, and pass a bunch of adult people of one gender near school on the road side. I'm not in a parking lot. This person jumps out into the road with their dog, and yells "slow down". On the way out, going even more slowly now to accommodate them, on the same road, same person yells "a--hole", and I have to really move quick to avoid them and their dog which they also pull out into road, and they are now crossing two lanes to get to my lane.

I encounter this about once every 5 years in 308. I'm going no faster than I do in my other cars, but that engine sound seems to cause people to maybe think I'm going too fast? Of course, I like the engine sound.

Anyone else run into this or similar? This is going to sound conceited; but I honestly feel like I'm doing the world a service by maintaining and using this car, and letting it be seen in everyday life verses having it sit in a garage. For me, if I encounter something beautiful in an average day, whether it be a car/person/architecture/butterfly/etc, it's an improvement to my day. Guess I'll just keep living, and if others want to be miserable, they make that choice themselves. Looking for emotional support

High revs must mean going fast, right?

Jumping out into the road and yelling is a good way to get hit by other cars, you tend to lose self awareness when yelling and moving fast.

I've had this happen numerous times in a variety of cars where I stick the car in a gear where it sounds great, and those around me assume I'm doin' 9,000 mph

Once, in my own neighborhood, I'm doing 22 mph in a 30 zone, woman runs down her driveway and into the street screaming at me to slow down. I stop, roll down my window and tell her I'm doing 22 in a 30 and she screams, "MY CHILDREN ARE PLAYING IN THIS STREET!!"

I remind her that's what back yards are for and she says,"BUT THERE ARE ALLIGATORS IN THE LAKE BEHIND THE HOUSE, THEY CAN'T PLAY THERE!!!"

I told her to move to Minnesota. She didn't think I was funny. I didn't care. I don't drive past her house anymore if I can avoid it.

I've had something similar where we did a Ferrari rally and ended up going through this small downtown. We were literally going slower than the walkers. Some old lady yelled out "slow down"! I just think some dumb people confuse looks and sound to speed.

I think this is a matter of zooming out. You're able to drive your son to school in a Ferrari – not doing anything wrong. They are risking their safety (and their dog's) to scold strangers. I can only imagine how unhappy that kind of person is.

    Great story.

My development has a main road with a 30mph speed limit. Possibly even a little too high. Lots of kids and pets running around and at night deer. I drive very conservatively in the neighborhood usually lower than the limit. The Moms on my street love me because I am obviously cautious. When I am in my truck no one ever notices but when in one of the Ferraris even very sedately in a high gear everyone acts as though I am going too fast.
Now the moms in their SUVs are typically going 40-50. I have had them pass me on residential streets.

I roll through my neighborhood at 1500rpm and haven't had a problem so far (13 years). My 360 (tubi headers, 200cell cats, tubi muffler) is loud enough that a friend told me he heard it from inside a house (windows/doors shut) as I rolled past, even at 1500rpm.

My neighbors are remarkably tolerant of me. :)

I think most people can be very tolerant as long as they know you're making an effort to be considerate.

In this case, the woman deserved a middle finger in response.

I do maybe 1500rpm to 2k max in 3rd or 4th gear in my and most other neighborhoods.....its the noise the gets bad reactions so keeping the rpm low really seems to help

I don’t know if you saw the YouTube video which is Similar but worst to what happen to Damon of DDE (Daly Driven Exotics) where he drove through a neighborhood with his Lambo SVJ and end up getting ganged up by the neighbors, threatened him and even broke his windshield, long story short, Damon sued and he won.

As tempting as it is to give someone the finger all it shows is that they got under your skin which validates their actions. There are two things you can do that will irritate them even more:

    1. Smile and wave. Remember the goal of the comment is to irritate you and if that fails then they are a failure.

    2. Give them a thumbs down. This one is absolute gold. I've done it a ton of times and it is always met with shock and confusion. The thumbs down shows you disapprove of them and there is no real coming back from it. Try it, you'll never go back to giving the finger.

If someone tells me to slow down and I'm already going slow I'll shift to neutral and rev the engine a couple times and give a thumbs up.

I drove mine to a local In and Out this morning. On return a guy passed me in a Honda Prius and beeped his horn four times.

I looked over and saw his hand out the window -- with a big thumbs up. Made my day!

While I appreciate these uhum "great" suggestions,... I hope they are sarcastic. I didn't want to escalate the situation. I'm hoping that to the many observers in the area, she comes off as the bad Karen: cursing within hear shot of other people (and I think pre-school age siblings), endangering herself and her dog. Leaving with no other action, I think, was the best option. I did give a friendly wave on the return trip, for what good it did.

Remember how much things have changed with cameras and social media in the last 10-20yrs. There is no assumption that you aren't being recorded. Lot's of filming options, since it's a long road with plenty of time to get a camera ready, and anyone would know I have to return, and she may have made comments to people around, that she would confront me on return trip. I'm giving 90% odds that this is up on some FB site related to this school right now, with or without pictures/video. However, as seen by all of us, innocence is no guarantee of logical mass media opinions. The personality types at these schools can be pretty wild. The follow things can make you a bad person: excess money, environmental unfriendly car, being male

I need to be able to return to this school. Now if this was some random town, I was passing through, there would be no problem.

One thing to consider. Many of those morons are armed and willing to shoot you for no reason other than they want to do it. Flipping the bird used to be a right of driving but now, I hold my gestures and avoid eye contact with the angry mob. If they hate me because I'm driving a magnificent Ferrari, then I pity them.

I like the idea of thumbs down, but I'm going to stick with "make no contact with the crazy people" method.

I make it a point to stay below the speed limit in my community.
First, because they are my neighbors. Second, because it's a Ferrari and we dont need any more haters. Third, leaving the neighborhood, the car is usually still on fast idle & hasn't warmed up sufficiently. Lastly, I grew up playing in these streets (the community is circa 1930-40) and it was fun bicycling in the street or riding unpowered go-carts downhill. Granted back then getting out of the way of a VW microbus was easier than today's Soccer Mom in her Hellcat, but still.

Haters? "Just smile and wave boys, smile and wave"
