    From the "first impressions" files.............

    I'm sitting at a corner in downtown Calgary traffic around 3pm this afternoon, waiting at the lights to turn the corner..........as the lights change and as the traffic starts to move, some suit in a Segway with his helmet and long winter overcoat on goes blasting past me.........well at whatever speed one of these contraptions "blasts" at......it was about -5 degrees celcius, and wet with slight traces of snow on the ground.........I didn't know whether to laugh or cry !!

    Funniest damn thing I have ever seen in my life.

    I've ridden a Segway. They're loads of fun. It took me only a couple of minutes to feel comfortable riding it. Mind you, I don't think I'd be riding it around downtown Calgary in the middle of January.

    From what I understand, the Segway is not the ultimate product that Dean Kamen had in mind. He needed to introduce a product he could build and sell to prove out the technology. Ideally the technology will be used in many other products - like wheelchairs. A wheelchair that could go over curbs or balance and climb stairs would be pretty amazing and much more of an asset than the Segways.

    Segways are all over DC... the Hill people ride them back and forth up and down K Street and Constitution Ave. There's not much funnier than seeing some dork in a suit cruising down the sidewalk on his scooter.
