Working off duty at a road closure......Camaro rear ended me while I was stationary. Witnesses say he was going highway speeds....(possible DWI)all default statements aside of trucks replaceable, etc.....I'm sore, went to hospital for CT scan since I blacked out....starting to get knee and ankle pains....here's the aftermath of my baby...I miss it already

    Hope you start feeling better.
Your truck took a big hit and probably helped prevent the force from travelin to you as much as it could have

What happened to the drunk driver?

I can honestly say that if my truck didn't have the 6" lift and bigger tires, I'd probably be worse off. He hit my rear drop hitch which is what I think helped displace the force. The driver seat looks like a backwards "c" how it bent. The other driver, from what other officers told me, was transported to the hospital...they had to use jaws of life to get him out of his Camaro. Said they would be doing a blood draw for DWI and possible chargers of Intoxication Assault.

Gee that is rough and must have been scary for you. It's good that you aren't worse off. Good luck in your recovery and I wish you a speedy one!! :)

This is just another lesson to not drink and drive(assuming that was the reason). You can easily screw someone else up but you can also mess your self up real bad.

Yeah, they were going to do a blood draw on him, as he was transported to the hospital too......much better than the outcome could have been. But, ultimately, my truck did its job....saved me, along with the construction workers were we literally 50-100 feet in front of my truck.....

Sorry to hear of your accident. Hope you recover without any major issues. Cars can always be replaced. Was this at 1604/281?

I hope everything turns out fine for you. I feel there is nothing wrong with enjoying an occasional drink, but it is a shame that some people think they are above the laws of man and nature, and put everyone else at risk. Again good luck with a speedy recover.

Count your blessings man, glad you are ok. i wish people would just spend the money on cabs, drinking is a huge responsibility.

What are you thinking in terms of replacements?

Yeah, having to go look for another vehicle has me bummed right now. I'm grateful that I'm not sitting under a stone, but still upset. That was my favorite. This was part of that area's construction, but I was on 1604 at stone oak...they were about to pick up barrels....

Thanks! I have nothing against alcohol...just the one who is irresponsible with it. I arrested a guy 4 years ago for DWI who caused a major accident, we're still going to trial for it.....insane. but there is a system in place for a reason....

Well, I don't know whether or not I'll do a road closure sidejob again. The pay is great, I made more there than my regular shift at my PD. But, looking back at the damage, thinking of my kids, along with the fact that my lifted truck saved me, the officer in front if me, as well as 4 road crew members, I'm not sure. If I stay away, I'm not concerned about a truck. I've looked at the R/T Challenger and Charger. We already have a family car, my tundra was the fun vehicle and sidejob money maker. I'm also looking at the 302 and 5.0 mustangs. Tossed around the idea of the SHO Taurus, but don't think I want to get around the forced induction scene. I need to see what, as well, I'm going to get for the damages to the add ons from the truck. Just put 2k in tires on it, 1500 in off-road lights and gear, 2500 in police lights, destroyed the ipad2 and my kiddos' car seats and headrest strap DVD players. Depending on that, I may have extra to put down. Still thinking. Had even though of a bigger family vehicle like a tahoe or suburban.

Glad to hear you weren't seriously injured. I would have been shocked if you said you weren't somewhat sore though. It's crazy that it caused that much damage, but he had to hit you doing going pretty damn fast.

Since you mentioned it, I never understood why people who have had some drinks speed. Whether it's one or 6.

If you decide not to do the off duty jobs, the 302 is sweet along with the new 5.0s. I personally liked the mustangs up until this year because I don't like the new rear end. Just make sure your kids can fit and you have enough space if this will be your only car and your wife drives the family car. :)

The big Yukon XLs and such get terrible gas mileage but they are tanks. I've been a passenger in one that wrecked on the highway(came over blind hill and someone just pulled off the shoulder was going <15mph). Airbags didn't go off and only had front end damage. It did a good job of absorbing the damage and the seat belts kept us in place.

I'm glad it sounds like you're feeling better and thank you for your service

I'm starting to get neck and mid to lower back pains, like a shooting through feeling. My knees and ankles as well. Body is feeling tight. Haven't been able to really sleep since the accident. Woke up in a jerking motion as if I was hit again. Saw a neck and spine specialist today, seeing a general orthopedic doctor tomorrow(no offense to any possible doctors here, I don't know the lingo or proper titles). My insurance says I'll have to pursue the other insurance seperately for my damaged property. Guess this is going to take a while....sigh.

It is called ASD (Acute Stress Disorder) and it is completely normal after experiencing a traumatic event. ASD is the precursor to PTSD. If after 3 months symptoms do not abate it is technically called PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder). Basically it is normal for up to some time to experience multiple symptoms; sleeplessness, nightmares, disassociating (daydreaming), avoiding the scene, panic attacks, etc. After such a time if the symptoms are still interfering with day to day functioning it is recommended to seek professional help. However at this point it is akin to a loved one passing and you grieving the loss...you are not depressed, just sad, but it could develop into depression. Again, all very normal.

Thanks for that insight D...very much appreciated.....still up tonight....slept May 4 hours in last two days. Seeing yet another doctor in the morning. Doctor today had me take off work for two weeks. Knee and ankle could be irritated more at work due to getting in and out of patrol car. Pending MRI Friday for c-spine and lumbar.
