One suggestion, if you are getting CT scans, read up on the radiation risks..

    http://www.reuters.com/article/2011/01/05/us-patients-underestimate-ct-scan-radiat-idUSTRE7044RO20110105

I read up on it after having my head scanned after my last motorcycle accident. If I knew all that, I wouldn't have had the CT scan unless I had serious symptoms to look for. I had one done as basically a preventative because I had hit my head pretty good.

Not to say anyone shouldn't get them but you should be aware of the risk that CT scans themselves have. Xrays aren't anywhere near as bad in terms of radiation. And nobody will probably tell you any of that.

    Chad,
First off I want to say how happy I am that you survived, it could have been alot worse for not only you but the workers and other motorist aswell as the drunk driver.

    1. As you know traumatic events will play on your mind so maybe you should seek some sort of professional counseling. A police officer tries not bring their work home with them (we both know that is not 100% possible) so I hope you seek and take the resources available to you.

    2. That driver is facing some serious fines which as you know could included jail time and the permanent loss of their license. Hmm lets see: DWI, speeding in a road construction zone (doubles your speeding fine for those who are not familiar with TX), assualt of a peace officer, possible failure to yield etc etc.

Yet that is all just yada yada yada, the main thing is you survived to "serve and protect" another day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are a good friend and I know you will be back soon.

I'm a lifelong motorcycle rider and sold my last two bikes (Victory Vision and Can Am Spyder RT) due to seeing too many rear enders where the vehicle was hit while stopped at a light. While drinking while driving is a factor, it seems that these days that it's distracted drivers that are making our roadways unsafe...and that's why I stopped riding and changed my passion to fine automobiles.

Thanks guys......still off work....have a Bulged disc I'm going to be getting the epidural shot for as well as continued therapy, as well as the therapy I've been having on my right leg. Got a replacement vehicle, 2012 4 door jeep wrangler. Kids love it, it's not the same as the Tundra, but nice. Difference in payment will let me put more into my Rx7 drag project. Looking forward to getting back to work on the 24th, but we'll see how the back feels first, still sore with some bad pinching on my left side. Being home was fun for the first week, lol...but, got boring real quick between the 4 different Dr appointments and such...lol

Good to hear you survived a hard rear-ender Chad. Living to face another day is victory. Being able to post about it is a great sign. And way better than the alternatives.

I have been rear-ended like that and was sore for a couple days and consider myself incredibly lucky. I was sitting at a stop light and luckily glanced at the mirror for just enough advance warning that it was not a total surprise. To this day I believe that straightening up minimized my personal injury. Take care of yourself as it takes a while to recover from this kind of hit.

Looking at those pictures, your truck did everything that could have been asked of it in such a situation. I see buckling of the bed showing a lot of energy transfer/absorbtion that acted as a large crumple zone. Crumple zones save lives.

Hopefully you can post a healthy and complete recovery soon.
