Madison to Denver was on time. At Denver, I got the United voice message that my 9:11PM departure was rolled to 1:25AM! The plane finally left at 2:00AM. While there was 300+ people in line at teh United customer service desk, I scrambled to Southwest and Frontier and found a Frontier flight that I got on (At the gate - on my cell booking a ticket - they were holding the flight for me until the transaction was completed).

How can this airline stay in business? Most all United delays I have experienced keep getting delayed, like an hour at a time. Their planes are filthy, the food in first class is gross and their customer service people are beyond snotty.

It's weird how people can have differing experiences on the same airline.

I have never had a problem on UAL in the last 5 years.....and all of my flights are thru the US and/or international.....100K miles a year +/-.

Do you have status Peter ? As in Premex, 1K or GS ?

United has been my airline of choice for over 20 years now.
I have to admit they have really gone downhill in the past 5 years or so.
I fly a mixture of coach, business, and first class depending on the length and type of trip.

There is nothing special about United's First Class anymore on their flights and the whole flying experience has become discouraging.
Every plane is over stuffed with people and carry-on luggage. The check-in procedures are draconian.
Customer service is awful. Costs are way up. Too many delayed or cancelled flights.
Too many flights are sold out when you go to make reservations. Or, even when you can make a reservation, too many flights fill up too early to reserve a window or aisle seat.

I think the marketplace is ready for something of a mix of business jet timeshare and first class commercial airfare. If anyone knows of a reasonable cost alternative to chartering a private business jet, I think there are quite a few customers out there that would be interested.

I am holding Silver Preimer (or whatever it's called) for this year. It does not buy me much. I have personally seen how they treat 1K for life members when there is a problem and it's ugly. I get better service from Budget and Hilton Honors Vs. that of the trainwreck in the sky called United Airlines. +1 to Toogie's reply too.

U-Neutered was my best booking option for time and connections to stay away from O'Hare. LA in two weeks with those a-holes again because they fly out of a podunk airport near where I live (Save 1.5 hours of driving).

After years as a loyal United customer, I simply won't use them anymore. Period.

LOOOOOOOOOOONG time United 'guy'. Get all my free tickets with them and when it is time to pay, I now go to Southwest. UNITED sucks big time anymore. They have gone steadily downhill in ALL aspects of their business for the past 15 years that I have been paying attention.

you can take the original post and ramdomly insert a different airline in place of UAL and someone somewhere will agree.

i think it's interesting how popular Southwest is. It's the last airline I look at when I'm looking to travel. I feel like i'm being herded into the airplane each time I board. And those 80's leather seats and mildew covered plastic panels are gross.

I use to hate Southwest, but a few things have changed my mind, in order of importace to me:

    1) They have the best on-time record in the industry.
    2) I like giving my money to companies who manage it smartly
    3) I can most often always book their 'Business Select' for a pitance that lets me on the first boarding of the plane.
    4) They are probably the most liberal airline for making changes on a ticket. They only charge the difference in air fare, unlike united that charges you $150 every time you blow your nose.
    5) Their prices are the best.

Then if you have identified it as the best option, why complain? That's what IPOD's and alcohol are for:)

I just opened an email from United slobbering all over themselved for the screwup in Denver. They gave me a Token Reward link that I clicked on. It had mile packs, an upgrade, etc. I took the 10,000 mile option they offered that will be in my account in 7 days. This is a first from them.

someone big at United must be on Fchat...

25-30 years ago airlines were what private aviation is now. The commercial aviation industry is now just public transportation, like riding a bus or taking the subway. when you take that into consideration, you are rarely disappointed.

Most US airlines are terrible nowadays, I used to fly Alaska all the time, but they are always so late.

When ever I fly domestically I always try to use an international airline that makes stops where I want to go...it takes a little bit of skill or a realy good travel agent. I really love Singapore Air, Air India, and Cathy Pacific. Their cabins and staff are soo much nicer than any US airline and often times you can get the seats cheaper.

From my experience, the International carriers are more customer oriented than US carriers. Next time you want fly internationally to a destination they service try Emirates or Qatar or Etihad...you can thank me later!!

If you were flying US Scare you would still be waiting at the Terminal for the flight and the schedule board will staill say ontime. It is truly a piece of $#&* airline.

I had 2 horrible experiences with United years back I steer well clear of them. I hope United is reading this thread because you are the worst f***king go**amn airline service around. Your customer service is the worst on the planet and as far as I am concerned I hope you go banko and rot in hell.

Ok I am back from rant mode.

KLM is the only international airline I've ever had problems with. Overbooking flights, bad customer service. I know many people love them, but I'll never fly them again.
