My wife and I had our eyes surgeries Friday,
Everything went great, I was 20/50
before, today I'm 20/20. 5 mins total time for doing the procedure, including prep time !! The actual procedure took 6 secs on one eye and 12 on the other.
Kelly was 20/400 (she was legally blind !!)
today she is 20/20 one eye and 20/25 in the other.
AMAZING what looking at a laser for a couples secs
    will do.

I would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who wears glasses or contacts, it truely is amazing, and TOTALY PAINLESS, putting in contacts was worse for me than doing the procedure ;)

I had mine done 15 years ago -- BEFORE they were doing it with lasers. Mine was radial keratotomy via diamond tipped scalpel.

I too was on the border of legally blind before the surgeries, and was corrected to 20/25. Of course, now that I'm older, I need reading glasses, but I've never been sorry that I had the surgeries done.

they were telling us about doing it that way, when it first started, I don't think I would have been brave enough for that !!!

I've been considering eye correction for years, but the horror stories scare the crap out of me. I stopped wearing contacts in the mid 90s and now just wear the glasses...the ones I'm blind as a bat without.
Also, isn't legally blind= 20/200 vision when corrected??
Anyone know what a -3.75 on each eye equates to in 20/XXX?

they tell me my pupils are too big. Some new laser is out (or soon will be) and maybe after that gets perfected I'll get it done. I'm a -2.75 right now...

    John,
Enjoy your new eyes. Had mine done two years ago and it was the best money that I have ever spent. Corrected vision went to 20/15 when with glasses they had only been corrected to 20/25. You wouldn't think something so simple as not having to wear glasses would have such an amazing impact on your life, but over the next several weeks as your eyes begin to heal I'm sure that you will be even happier with your decision to have it done.

    Congratulations!

I had mine done on Monday of last week. Went from 20/50ish to 20/15 in about 5 minutes... Had a checkup today and the doc told me it's only going to get better as my eye heals. Looking forward to that :)

As for price... shopping around for a cheap deal on someone to cut your eyeball open and blast it with a laser probably isn't a good idea. Expect costs of just over $4k.

I'm planning on having the surgery in about 10 months. I wish I could have it done today, but I'm not of the minimum age. The minimum age requirement is 18 and I'm only 17 right now. I've been wearing contacts (-2.00 in left and -1.75 in right) for two and a half years now and I'm tired of it. I can't wait until my 18th birthday.

If you have blue cross (maybe others) insurance,

you can go through the co-op program www.truvision.com
and it a 50% price reduction,
the office in b'ham where we had it done was $3,800 per person but be scheduleing through Tru Vision, it was 1,600 per person !!!

    plus its tax deductible !!!

I would do it again in a heart beat !!! My wife was 20/400 ! (legeally uncorrected blind is 20/200 (she was a -3.50)
and the night of the procedure she said she could already see better than she could with contacts or glasses !! Best money I have ever spent also ;)

I just went for an eye exam last week and my doc told me that i'm a perfect candidate for lasik and should think about getting it done. I'm 22 and my eyes are -5.75. Wearing contacts doesn't really bother me but I'm considering it.

My Rx is -1.5 in both eyes.... not too bad. My wife is legally blind in one eye, and sees well after correction in the other. We will look into the surgery one day, for certain.

Have considered Lasik but have decided against it for a bizarre reason, I like my blurry world. I wear glasses for driving and TV viewing and that's about it. If I start walking around my house with glasses on I notice every imperfection and sometimes I forgot to take off my glasses when I get to work and holy crap is my Machine shop disgusting. With my glasses on everything seems so sharp and I guess I have just got use to my slightly less sharp world

The doctor said I was 20/2400 I could not see two fingers from 10 feet away or something. I was wearing -5.50 in one eye -5.75 in the other i was blind as a bat. Went in paid $4k walked out 30 minutes later. I can see 20/20. Now its been 7 years and i still see 20/20. How about that! I have said it before, Its by far the best thing I have ever spent 4k on.

Except these two twins from california, but thats a different story.

    really short version,
    they tape your eyelids open
cut a crescent shape "flap" in the outer membrane covering your eye, (painless) felt like taking out a cobntact. then they use a laser to reshape your cornea (make it eiter flatter or more round) take about 6-8 seconds, you just look at very small red light and you hear a clicking sounds, no feeling what so ever. then he places your "flap" back, with q-tip looking thing, (feels like putting in a contact) than does same thing on other eye. then removes the tape from your eye lids,

and your done, he gives you about 10 mins then visually checks everything and tells you when to come back for a follow uo (read eye chart)
    and your done,

whole procedule took 6 mins on me, ( that includs walking in procedure room and walking out) !!
the only thing you feel is them removing the tape for your eyelids !!
