I hate technology

    Don't get me wrong. I love gadgets, know quite a lot about computers and how they work and could easily build one if i wanted to but technology pisses me off so much. Here's why:


    1) My dell laptop is getting fixed at my schools tech help desk. The fan stopped working for no reason a while back and i decided it was time for it to be fixed. I take it in and they diagnose the problem as a broken fan. In fact the error message said the fan didn't work. It never said it was broken. I go back to pick up my laptop and they tell its not the fan, its the motherboard. Ok. All the repairs at school are free and it'll take an hour to put in. They order the part and it came in today. I dropped my laptop off (again) and they get to work. I go in at 7:30 tonight (tech desk closes at 8) and ask whats up. Apparently there is still a problem and they're ordering another motherboard. The computer won't be ready until Monday night at the earliest. Altho the guy was real nice and is coming in tomorrow to work on it even though he doesn't have to. Anyway, now i'm typing this on the girlfriends computer because the POS loaner laptop they gave me is extremely slow and won't even get online. Great

    The battery is great for a year and then completely dies. Did i mention Dell only cover battery replacements under warranty for a year?

    3) I bought a used PS3. Its started freezing and won't connect to the internet all the time. I know it was used but i figured i'd save the money (which i did, i saved a ton) but its still a pain if i decide to return it (thank god i got the gamestop warranty)

    4) My Samsung D900 is a great phone. I love it. Its not avaliable in the US (or at least wasn't for a year after i got it from Hong Kong) but the battery is dying and whenever i try to activate blutooth now it freezes up. It also doesn't recognise the blutooth headset i got for my PS3 which i don't mind but it would have been nice to have it just in case



    It seems that no matter what, something is always going wrong. Anyone else have this problem?

    I don't have any problems with technology as in computers/gadgets...

    But I do have a big problem with cars. Always something wrong. I haven't yet been in one single car that has worked flawless the entire period of ownership.

    1) this is typical with motherboard design. The fans work hard. They die. And to replace them it is usually the fan itself or the entire motherboard. Refurbed motherboards (which is what you purchased) are hit and miss and a replacement motherboard for your refurb is very typical.

    2) & 4) Batteries on phones and laptops work on cycles. It is the number of cycles - completely down and back up again - which contributes to how much wear and tear they go through. If you have a battery in a laptop which is plugged in most of the time, it will not go through as many cycles. That battery will last longer. Not much, but will last longer.

    Standard battery warranties are usually 30-90 days, not much more. If you are complaining about a 1 year battery warranty... that's actually not a bad thing. I've had or used extensively (inside and out) about every Dell laptop since the M90 (90mhz pentium!) from '96 or '97. Batteries do not last long. I'm hard on notebooks. I used to go through (in dot com bubble days) the XP, XPi and those later in that platform. Batteries would last between 9 and 10 months, tops. Notebooks would only last 15-18 months before I'd need to get the next best thing.

    3) You bought it used. Updated firmware? Checked on warranty?

    Sorry to be on the other side of your issues, but to deal with technology and frustrations and the crashes in systems, I've learned you have to embrace two qualities: patience and laughter.

    My problem is computers. I only know how to get on the forums, thats it:D everything else is a pain in the ass for me. especially down loading new software.

    Computers are a pain. The technology is moving so fast, that by the time you purchase all of the latest stuff and build your computer, you are already behind the technology curve. It is a endless cycle

    Nothing better than realizing that the CPU you paid 600 $ for two months ago is now being dumped at 250 $ and the Harddrive you paid 250 $ now is going for 90 $ :) Too fast! But it's okay, if you build a 1.200-1.500 $ computer today you'll have the performance needed for next 5 years...

    5 years? doubtful. You'll have something that gets you by. If you plan on gaming, you'll need to get a new one every 18-20 months at the least to stay on top of power and more importantly, video cards (which can run up to $1K alone)

    If you watch tech trends in pricing, you shouldn't lose out. Shelling out 250 on a drive isn't ideal. Why not go for something in the 150-170 range, that isn't the latest and greatest of the tip top in storage? That would be, only a few months out from the 250 price tag of the 'newest'. I usually set my dollar amounts at what I'll spend on certain parts for a computer and that hasn't changed in a good 7 or 8 years.

    But now... things are different. I gotta macbook pro and while a newer one will be coming out soon, this is working pretty good for me so far. Upgrading and tweaking isn't as necessary since it already works out of the box. Not to mention, I didn't need to spend an hour uninstalling all the trialware crap. Eh... /rant.
