I cannot bear this annoying wanker.
Prepare to be even more annoyed. http://twitter.com/#!/willbuxton My "invention" could cure all ills. http://www.halfbakery.com/idea/TV_20Commentator_20Mute#1023634259
I actually kinda like him. Seems to get some big interviews unlike Peter Windsor who could only get backmarkers to talk to him.
On a related note: Am I the only one who is annoyed by the Sam Posey montages with the bad prose? I absolutely hate them. But I do love the 375+. My favorite of all actually.
I'll be totally honest with you. I have never, ever, EVER in my life liked Sam Posey's pretentious monologues --- and he's been doing them since I was a kid it seems! The problem is you don't see him talking so you don't know when to stop the MUTE function! Buxton to me is a nobody. I don't even pay attention to him because he adds so little to the broadcast. He's just your required third British accent dude needed for F1 telecasts. One American to 3 British --- it's in Bernie's contract with Speed to maintain the air of snobbery. Sort of like 3 Southern accents and one Northern accent on Speed's Nascar broadcasts -- it's required to maintain the air of stupidy.
Of course it is a personal thing but for me the Sam Posey commentary has been a highlight for me and I really love his insight, perspective, and delivery. Love him or hate him he is a very accomplished racer and journalist. Sadly he is suffering from advanced Parkinson's disease which limits him to just voice overs and I think that it is great that Speed continues to offer him a forum to express his views. As for Will Buxton I know nothing about him but he is enthusiastic and is factual with little errors. He does a good job even if his style is not for everyone. Personally I do not care for, former wrench jockey turned race car design expert Steve Matchett but again that is just me.
No. I like and respect Sam and what he's done in his life but today's stuff was just too pretentious.
Do a little research on Sam. He is a renaissance guy. Once you know him better you will appreciate the way he approaches racing and life. Will Buxton works his butt off, but he is annoying. I used to hate Matchet, but he seems to know his stuff. I actually bought lunch for Hobbs once, and like him quite a lot. He has genuine knowledge about the most subtle aspects of each track--having driven most of them in anger. So, that leaves Varsha as the weak link. I am just glad we are racing again, but those notched noses are horrible. The McL is a very nice looking car, by far.
For you guys to call these guys pretentious is hilarious. You could do better? Who's pretentious? It demeans Ferrari Chat when a bunch of old guys just sit around criticizing. If you're really so smart, contribute something positive. Hate threads are for losers.
I never said I "hate" anyone. I'm not exactly old, I'm in my early 20's. I don't like his broadcast style, nor do I like Peter Windsor. I greatly respect Sam Posey and his accomplishments but his monologues are some times over the top.
I happen to enjoy Will. He is enthusiastic, and gets some great interviews. Actually I envy his situation a bit. Matchet may know his ****, but could someone spare him a razor? He looked as if he had been on an all night bender for St Patty's day. Then suddenly remembered he needed to be at work. Hobbs brings some sophistication to the set, and Varsha I actually enjoy. He happened to correct Matchet a few times during the broadcast and it made me smile a bit. Cheers.
Speaking of Varsha mis speaking, the best was when he said "Last year there were no drivers in F1, this year there are 3!". (He meant French drivers) Awesome!
I love Posey's "pretentious" monologues, they're what F1 and its history is all about. At least to me. Will Buxton is ok. I really like him when he occasionally steps over the Speed TV line and makes an unguarded comment, so refreshing from the PC fodder Varsha regurgitates. To all the Buxton haters: Remember what idiot we had before him in that role. Do you really want to go back to that lying sack?
+1 While Will Buxton might be a bit excitable and come across as a McLaren fan, he is infinitely better than that mouthpiece of USF1, the cheesy, popped collared, grinning liar Peter Windsor....and he gets better interviews. For the most part the drivers froze out PW other than his obligatory "good luck out there from SpeedTV".
+1 Posey brings intelligence to the Fox broadcasts. I was at LimeRock the weekend following Phil Hill's passing. Sam Posey was there and delivered a powerful eulogy If anything is pretentious its the voiceover on the commercials and the lead-ins. They use some kind of audio gimick to accentuate the last syllable of every phrase this jerk says. Its annoying and stupid. Buxton seems to have had one too many 5 hour energy drinks but I agree with what someone else said, that he does seem to get the interviews. (How many Jean Todt interviews did Windsor ever get yet Domenicali spent a fair amount of time with Buxton under less than ideal circumstances? Hobbs? Who else is so much fun to listen to when he's wrong? I can't think of someone who I would trade out Matchett for. He adds more technical info than either Hobbs or Varsha. Varsha? There unfortunately aren't enough Barrett-Jackson auctions to keep this guy away from the F1 broadcasts. To be fair, he isn't there to tell "us" anything. He's there to dumb the broadcast down to the level of the viewer who is paralyzed in their recliner Again, as has been said, he's the weak link. I wonder if anyone really turns up the volume just because Varsha told them to?
I rather like Will! I cannot stand the new music intro for the race! UGGGHHHHH!!!!! Sounds like it was done on a '80s drum machine and synth, yuk, barf!!
