i have a scud now and i don't like how the 458 looks. I pulled a chair up to a rosso colored 458 and stare at it for an hour, nothing. Not as emotional as i first saw my 430, 599, 612, scud, etc.... In person and in pictures, i dont like it at all, im sure it drives awesome, but it just doesnt do it for me. I even dislike the black stark interior with some carbon goodies, maybe its too new age for me, but it all look too modern and japanese, thats why i think mine will be white aka japanese if i get one. Im sure the 458 will drive great, fast, and has already killed any FUTURE competition they might have. But the looks inside and out just dont do it for me. When i first saw my 430, i was in awe, i couldnt believe how nice and beautiful that thing looked. Maybe im spoiled, i dont feel anything when i look at the 458. My problem is, even if i dont like how it looks, i might still get one, because IT IS the latest and greatest and all the hype that is surrounding it makes me want to have one. Now thats the power of ferrari, im definitely buying whatever they are selling. retarded but true. i remember my 430 was the best car when new and it pretty much still is compared to cars today, but i think it also look very good. Funny with the 458 that IT IS the best car out there for the next 5 years but i just dont like the look. I hope i get used to it soon. Im specing it out now and really cant find any good interior combo, i think we should start a thread about interiors, because i cant do anything with the outside, but i will try to make the inside as hot as a scud. sidetrack, i saw a new white 599 HGTE with black rims and black/suede/leather with white stitching that is so hot it isnt funny. I hope i can make a 458 interior that hot but in RED.
Do a search. There are a couple of threads where people are showing off their possible interior schemes with screen grabs from the configurator..
keep your scuderia.... why buying a car if you don't feel any emotional connection? I bought the 458 and would never have bought a 430 for the exact same reason as you (find design of 430 really outdated, in particular the front) - so really a matter of personal taste!
Obviously you have more money than sense... You do not like the car yet you will get it because IT IS the latest and greatest... In other words LOOK AT ME, Not only am I rich but I have style AND the latest and greatest Ferrari.... Really, That is what your post sounds like... Don't take it too harshly but just enough to make you think about what you are saying... From a business point of view your logic does not make sense..... Of course I will go were the money is and take the better contracts but if it were between 2 equal contracts, I will pick the guy(girl) who has a subdued sense of style.... If everyone pulled up in a 458 and you pulled up in a scud and said I am driving the scud because I like it better and the other guys said, "yeah, I like it better also but I went with the 458 because IT IS the latest Ferrari", who would you choose as the better business partner??? I know who I would..... So the bottom line is don't get the 458 because I am in line and I can't get it until this Spring and if all you really rich guys get em just because you can, then I may have to wait longer... WoW, All that so I can move up in line......... This coffee is Strong!!!!! Tony..............
I had the same problem. I have a Scuderia and ordered a 458. My plan was to keep both cars. My wife canceled the 458. But that's a story for a different time. I've never liked the 458 from day one. I don't like the front and I don't like the interior. So why did I order a car I did not like? Because like you, I could. Sometimes you get caught up in the Ferrari hype and will buy anything Ferrari. Months have passed since I canceled the 458. I've seen the car in person and I still don't like it. I don't regret the decision. I will revisit the 458 when the Scuderia version comes out. As you know the Scuderia is a very special car. Don't buy a car "just to buy a car."
Buy and try all the new models. Some you will like more than others. Some you will expect to like and not like so much when you actually get it and vice versa. New cars are disposable. I don't buy any new car expecting it to be a keeper as the next model seems to always be better. Of course the 458 Scuderia version will be better than the 458. It will be 3 years later and have 3 years of advancement in the electronics. But that doesn't negate the reason to own a 458 in the meantime. In the interim you could also own a 458 Spider for a while. Scuderia is a very special car but it is old technology compared with the 458. Scuderia is now like a 575HGTC after the 599 was released.
Interesting point of view! Seemimg like ur kinda modern guy. Living & driving the latest gears...BTW, sometime we are just impressed w/old folks, just like u do w/ ur 288gto buddy! Best,
actually im the exact opposite of rich when it comes to the 458. I can get one now, drive it for a year and trade it for a spyder with minimum loss if any. while with a 599, 612, 430, or scud, i can never do that.
The 458 will certainly go to make room for the 458 Spider. I am not interested in having more than one new Ferrari at a time. I seem to have lots more capacity when it comes to cars that make it to my "keeper" fleet - The latest addition is a 993RS. I simply love driving that car - much more than the 997GT3RS that I had.
Simple. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Those of us who do will just get ours sooner. Seriously... why would you buy something you don't really want? I don't think the 458 is a replacement for a Scud. It's a replacement for the F430. On that level, it wins hands down. If you want a replacement for the Scud, wait about 3 years for the new M model. BTW: I love how it looks. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Both of us are right about it's appearance. There are a lot of people out there that never warmed up to the F430 or Scud too.
None of the 360s/430s ever did anything for me.........the 458 was an instant love afair--but that is just me. However, if you really like your Scud; consider: Wait until a 458 is totalled with a servicible engine. Then have that engine and its associated electronics retrofit into your Scud.
beautiful car but they got the front end wrong that 911 in the background looks heaps better from the front view.
