When I try to pull out my seat belt - 88.5 Mondial Cab - it locks up unless I pull it out very very slowly. This happens only on the drives side.
    Any help - please?

My 79 308 does that. The only thing I do is press on the inertia lock, and it releases the belt so you can pull the seatbelt out with no problems. It's on the back side of where the seatbelt comes out of.

    Hi Ron,
Be carefull there may be a problem with the internal workings. You also may have a twist in the spool, pull it out all the way to the end of the belt and let it back keeping under a little pressure so it wraps back tight on the roll.

Don't forget its your safety, if in doubt change it.

    Hope that helps

Pull the whole thing out, clean it, put it back. May be a PITA to get to so you might try a little oil on the roller first with the belt pulled all the way out. Make sure you don't use too much or it will get on the seat belt, and don't use an oil with a strong smell!

If it's anything like mine, it works on a simple pedulem that locks a sawtooth gear when you stop short, or pull the belt too hard. Years of dust/gunk are likely forcing the locking thingie to be right on the gear, so any small movement locks it up.

I doubt the car is unsafe as is. As I have no idea personally how a Ferrari seat belt inertia drive may be different than mine, YMMV, but I would be surprised if it's anything you can't DIY as long as you don't have to take half the car apart to get to it.

my 78 308 did this, i did not have to pull the mechanism, just sprayed wd40 onto the wheel/gear part of the retractor - did this 7 years ago - never a problem since...

No more pulling at the belt, inch by inch. WD 40 and Ferrari Chat to the rescue.
    Thanks!
