ok guy it has finally happend I have been bitten by the 1:18 Ferrari bug !! the disease is progressing, first I loved Ferraris, then to posters as a kid, the to looking for a car to buy as an adult, in my search I found Ferrarichat, (YESS) then for watching to participating in discussions, then it was unto events/shows, then into the realm of books, magazines, and videos. well now comes the step into the world in miniature !!!! So here is where you guys come in. I wanna ordered one model every other week. (my wife thinks a grown man buying toys is goofy anyway) Plus I don't wanna just go out and buy all the ones I want because I think that will take some of the fun out of it. One reason I wanna start collecting is to to it as a hobby and look forward to finding and getting new models. After following you guys on here for a while I wanna just collect one size (1/18) and one brand. I like consistancy. So I have decided to go with Hotwheels, (price/availability/selection seems best) I wanna start with the newer production models and work my way backwards. Here is my deliema, WHAT TO PULL THE TRIGGER WITH, I was thinking 360 or 355 spyder since I don't see them that often, don't wanna miss them........But how could I not start with an Enzo ? But them again I see the 166 and Lusso that even though are vintage I think they are GREAT !!!!!!!!! so what do you guys think ? DECEISIONS, DECEICIONS ???????????
Hey, buddy! Hope all is well with you. I have collected 1:18 since '87, and have a lot of examples, although in the 1:43 scale you get MUCH more variety..... The larger scale gives you more opportunity to examine the details of the cars.. Before you go solely with Hot Wheels, who have a blanket agreement with Ferrari at this time, be aware of other manufacturers of the past that offer better quality in this scale such as Model Art or EXOTO. Good luck! My bookcases are FULL, so mine jus' get thrown in the closet for now.....my NEXT house will have to be LARGER! I can't put the racing karts in the Living Room anymore!
I was in the same boat as you in May2004 - All I had a F1-2002 and thinking that diecasts were a thing of my past. And then I got hooked into it once again. I have racked up about 30 models since .... HW is pretty much the sole source for the newer generation Ferraris a sthey have an exclusive contract .... My first Ferrari road car was an Enzo. 1:18 is the best in my book because all the car opens up and the detailing is pretty decent. Price-wise there isn't a big markup if you go from 1:43 to 1:18
Hi. The launch version is the model of the last season with the sponsors and the decoration of the present season.
He has two Enzos, both yellow for some reason.......and I sent him an extra '87 TR I had, as he knows an owner with one........so has 3 now, and I've one less........
John, Maybe a little compromise - pick up some inexpensive Mattel from Ebay or Big Lots and then some higher quality (and price) ones each month. You can really bump up the quanity quickley and cheaply on Eaby. Some of the Mattels are really cheap. Once you have a good base collection, start after the rare or super expensive ones. But of course, find one of your favorite car or the one you have/want.
Here are some threads with info on the different F1 Cars (Mattel only). Exoto and Minichamps make excellent 1:18 F1 cars also. http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12781 http://ferrarichat.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2589&highlight=grand+prix+legends
the thing I have noticed with ebay, is they are cheaper thamn like exoticar, but they nail you with the shipping and you end paying more :-(
I always look for some one near me and then see if I can buy multiple things and save on shipping. I collect diecast planes too, and never buy less than 4 or 5 from the same seller. Saves a lot.
Here in Colorado for one more year, then home to Alaska. Now, you want to talk about shipping prices? I have bought many models up there where the shipping was more than the model. No ground service - air only (FedEx, UPS, etc.)
I love my collection... I have about 30 1:18's. I also have the 2nd edition of the Tamiya F50 (in Red) and the "new" Kyosho 1:12 F40 (also in red, the only color it comes in - as far as I know). When I was in Cali for all the festivities I picked up the Lego Racers Ferrari F1 car (in 1:10). It's pretty sweet. I'll try and post some pics when i get home from work here in a bit...
John, buy the 355 Spider first, they're harder to find. You'll find no sympathy from me regarding your new past time. I have 23 1/18's at my office, and 4 more still in boxes at home. My brother sent me a 1/18 Kyosho Daytona for my birthday as a complete surprise. The Kyosho's are the best by far, but they're priced accordingly. I need the 612. And the Lusso. And the 166. And the original TR. And the 'raced' series. And the....
Before you decide to buy only Hotwheels Ferraris you might want to look as some of Kyoshos offerings as well. For a little more money you'll have a model you'll apprieciate much more.
as promised earlier... here are some pics of my Ferrari collection... Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Glad to hear you've been bitten I started collecting Ferrari models personally..then to support my habit I made it a full time business & store. I've always gain the most satisfaction by purchasing rarer models. And by rarer I don't always mean expensive either. Someone here in the forums for example just post a pict from a recent purchase of a Polistil Ferrari 250 Spyder. He bought it for $10.50. WOW....thats what collecting is all about I Talk to alot of customers who ask me what should I buy? what should I colelct? I tell them not to buy anything with the idea of making money...but to buy what you think is cool. I also like themes in collections too Give yourself a theme and it makes collecting quite enjoyable. My personal one is to collect all BBR Ferrari F40s made. And for as few as they make, its really a tough thing to do..... For 1/18, try the Mattel F1, others but the MS Minichamps collection models, or maybe the Challenge cars.. enjoy! Ron ScaleCars.com
GREAT collection, I love the way you paired the road cars with the F1's you can really see they are from the same lineage ;-)
Are you talking about my collection? If so, thanks! I'm pretty proud of it... Today is my birthday, so hopefully the wife will add a few more to the collection -- If you weren't talking about my collection, that's ok - i'm just gonna pretend like you were
