I have the solution for Ferrari siren p/n 177148

    If you need to change Ferrari siren p/n 177148 and its very expensive for you,
    can buy a siren, low cost, GM 15213135.
    Then open it with something sharp, and locate the eeprom 9346, in to the red
    line, in the first picture
    Desoldering it and rewrite it with the code in the second picture with ponyprog,
    then solder it.
    That's all, now you have a clone from p/n 177148.
    Its working fine in all mode!!!

    Very clever but above my pay grade, what's a ponyprog? how do you re-program an eprom let alone solder it back onto the pcb.

    I thought there was a direct swap solution from GM like from the 2005 C6 corvette? Am I wrong on this?

    PonyProg is a free serial programmer, easy, to use and to fount it, in net.
    I know that there are some cases that you can reprogram a eeprom on pcb, but
    in this case I think that you must only desolder the eeprom to reprogram it via
    ponyprog and solder it back again!

    No my friend.
    You are right.
    This is the low cost siren that I write above, when connect it you have the red light off
    but no sound when the alarm is working.
    With my solution everything working fine, and the red light off, and the sound is present.

    I just tried the GM part number. Two things are different:
    1. If you arm the car and then open the door from the inside, instead of sounding the siren, the light flash is all.
    2. If you turn off the master power switch to do any maintenance, the siren wails loudly. This would not be a good situation should you want to turn of the master power switch for any reason.
    I do not have the means to reprogram an EPROM, so I guess I have to pony up and buy the Ferrari siren.

    I just ordered the Ferrari part ... I will be installing it as soon as I get it in. If anyone wants the GM version of the siren, let me know. I paid $75 and will let it go cheaply.

    I believe I have the GM version and I don't have any of those issues. Wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy the programming equipment than buying a Ferrari version?

    I was hoping that the only issue would be that the car’s lights would only flash if once armed it was violated. I cannot have the issue where turning off power would have the alarm sound. A new siren from Eurospares is less than $400 ... still more than the GM part but substantially less than most sources such as the local Ferrari dealer.

    At $400, it definitely is not worth my time to take apart the GM siren, desolder the EPROM, figure out how to program it and get the necessary gear to that, re-solder the EPROM and reassemble the siren. My regret is not arriving at that conclusion before I purchased the GM siren. So I am out that $75 ... but I have buyer for that part so not out the full $75.

    What kind of hardware do I need to buy for the 9346 chip?

    Q2: Will the GM siren works if I swap the 9346 chip from the original Ferrari 177148 siren?

    Q3: The siren dies when its' battery is not able to hold a charge no more - the alarm red light keeps on not goes off after the engine start. So is it a way to just replace the dying recharable battery on the original siren vs buying/reprogramming a GM part?

    Interesting. I thought this happened on my car shortly after I bought it, so I assumed I had to disarm the alarm before using the battery switch. Recently, however, I couldn't reproduce the behaviour.

    That would depend on whether the battery has leaked (badly), damaging circuit board components. Reprogramming and/or replacing the battery involves getting into the siren case. Many types have plastic welds on their cases, so you may need to cut open the case (This can be messy if you don't have the appropriate tools).

    You need an eeprom programmer that supports the chip.
    Opening the GM unit takes a bit more effort than just running a knife around the edge.
    Cut to deep and you will be doing some damage.

    The secret to opening up that alarm module without a lot of fuss is to hit it with a heat gun set. Once the plastic is nice and warm (about 160F should do it), it cuts open with an exacto knife like butter. A five minute job, including the heating time.

    The issue with buying a Ferrari part, is that unless it was recently manufactured, the battery will likely fail soon. I had this problem. I installed one that the local F dealer had on the shelf specific to the F430 model.....it lasted like 6 months. Then issues: it would just go off while I was driving. The car ran fine. It was just embarrassing as heck. I replaced with a GM version. Worked fine.

    BTW, there are numerous threads on this site concerning replacing the battery on the failed, OEM sirenunit as well.

    I just didn't want to hassle with jerry-rigging a battery solution when I can just replace the entire unit and get the backup battery off-the-shelf at anytime with minimal hassle.

    I have opened mine on my 456M.
    the PCB is f**ked. I consider unsolder the eeprom from mine and putting it back into a new GM module I fould second hand and also change the batteries.
    Good or bad plan?

    Ferrarifobs.com sells a GM siren with the firmware reflashed to Ferrari specs. Have one in my 575M. Works great.

    Their website header stops at the 575. Do you know if the same siren would work in a 612? I would think they are similar if not identical. I have not had a chance to contact them for clarification.
