    I seem to have an issue getting fuel into my 488 if I squeeze the pump handle more than 1/4 of the way. It is annoying and takes forever to get fuel in the car. Do other people have this same issue? My car only has 6,000 miles, so I can't imagine a problem with the charcoal canister already.
    I tried pulling the nozzle out a little, and rotating it front and back, but that didn't seem to help. If I held it upside down, it seemed to be somewhat normal, but I didn't want to do that because I was afraid that gas would come splashing out, plus the nozzle wound up uncomfortably close to the body of the car, so I decided to take the slow and safe approach.
    Does anyone have any idea where I can start to troubleshoot? I don't want to just throw parts at the car. It runs perfectly, and never got a check engine light, so that is the only issue. Any help would be appreciated.

    I tried about 4 different stations, and they all behave the same.
    Do you think it could be a bad fuel vapor separator? Is there a way to test it?

    Pulling the nozzle out about half way sometimes helps.

    Most vehicles have a vent tube that allows the back pressure to release when filling the vehicle. When it becomes clogged, it can be difficult to fill the gas tank.

    Some folks check the charcoal canister functionality by disconnecting the line before the filter to see if it fills properly. The charcoal canister is used to filter fumes from entering the atmosphere. If it is plugged, the tank should fill and then you know what the problem is. Always be careful with fuel system vapors as they are highly combustible.

    I can't seem to find the charcoal filter in the shop manual. Do you know how to access it on the 488? Can I assume it's the same/similar to the 458?
    Which is the line that goes into it, is it easy to access (I assume from the wheel well?)
    Is there a fuse that I can check for a purge valve? I know the Porsches would get a fuse that would blow and cause this problem. Is there a known fuse I can check?
    Sorry for all the questions, I'm just trying to figure out a systematic way to troubleshoot this.

    No worries, I don’t know where it is on the 488 but you need to be looking into the EAP / emissions system of the manual that is where the charcoal filter is always located. I would go online and see if you can pull up a micro fish of the emissions system. Maybe..312807

    After about five years I stopped being able to put gas in my 458 here in CA. Searching the forums showed the F12 and 458 had many problems. I bought a grommet off Amazon For $8 and it has fixed this problem for me. Discussed with my Ferrari service advisor and he had heard similar stories: https://www.ferrarichat.com/forum/posts/149156822/.

    I have same issue with my 488 and just hold it out about an inch and not let it rest on the neck and will work, if not it kicks the gas handle off quickly

    Guys, you have to keep holding the nozzle thing of the pump pulled in pretty much as you're filling up in 99% of gas stations in California..it sucks, but thats the only way- There was company that made a rubber thing that you put over the nozzle to remedy this issue i have a thread somehwere here about it

    The pumps around here stopped using that crappy bellows thing around the nozzle several years ago. I used to pull it back with my hand as I was filling up.
    Our pumps don't have that system anymore, but I still have trouble filling the 488. Never had trouble with my 360 or my 458.

    I cut a piece of pipe insulation about 2" long and put that over the nozzle when I'm filling up. It seems to have solved the problem.

    Strange thing today. I filled the tank today (probably the 4th or 5th time since owning it) I went to the station that I usually go to.
    But this time, It filled perfectly at full speed, without a single stop! It's great news, but obviously confusing.
    At least if it fails to fill at full speed in the future, I know it's either the gas station, or an intermittent issue with the purge solenoid (I think that's what it's called). It's not a kinked vent or some other defect like that.
