Ok...this is only rumor, please do not threaten to sue me, no names will be used.

The rumor I hear is that if you buy a car from dealer "x" out of state and then bring it in for service shortly therafter in your state at the local dealer they give you the "should have bought it from us, this is all messed up, going too be expensive" line....now I have heard this type of comment several times in the 5 weeks I have been pursuing my interest in the purchase of a Ferrari; I think its ALWAYS fair to say be it a VW or a Ferrari you likely get better assistance with issues OUT OF WARRANTY etc. if you bought it from the place you are having it serviced at...I just do not want to wait till the local or regional dealers find me a car if one is out there on the net that has my parameters....dog

If you're buying a car out of warranty, bring it to a respected independent shop.

    You'll probably save money!

I don't know the dealer you're talking about but with the 2 I have worked with in that exact same situation, that never happened. They were just happy to get a new customer and were really helpful.

Did the local guy have the car you wanted? Was it the color you wanted? Price? Lots of reasons not to buy from your local dealer.

Now as to their practices once you've bought, I'm not so sure. Why screw a potential future customer? Most people seem to own these cars less than 3 years and then trade up.

Don't know who's been pushing that line about better service if you buy local, but it sounds a lot like a local trying to sell you a car. I bought my car 5 states away but the local dealer has been totally helpful in every way. Couldn't ask for more.

Yeah, not sure who that came from but the local dealer here was working from the start to have me as a customer. They offered to find the car I wanted if they didn't have one between their two shops here in central Florida, and showcased their service facilities regardless of where I found my car. I was clear with them that I was driving around the state and beyond and actively looking and ready to buy. In the end they won, they had the best car sitting in the showroom the whole time :)

There's all kinds of rules on NEW Ferraris, trying to urge you to deal with your local dealer.

    On used ones, who cares??

As noted most leave the dealership and persue a good independent the day the warranty ends, if not before!!

They want your money. Servicing your car is the best way they can get it. They have a few new car allotments and some used cars, plus tee shirts and caps, etc. That's about it. They won't turn you away.

When my local Ferrari dealer tried to bend me over, I purchased from out of state. The car was under warranty, and when I brought it in for warranty issues. they jerked me around...... until I called FNA. Then all of a sudden I was a valued customer! :)

I've noticed this kind of thing when visiting private reselling shops. Not sure about dealers yet.
