I Heard a Great Story Today

I was selling a trolling motor lower unit to a gentleman today and he noticed my '87 328 GTS. He told me he had an interesting Ferrari story.

When he was a young man, he knew the family of a John Stone in Monroe, LA. They had purchased a '56 500 TR that was an ex racer. When they bought it, the engine had been swapped out to a 283 Chevy. The Stones raced the car for a while and then lost interest.

My new friend thought the car was really cool and hated to see it wasting away back behind the Stone's place. He approached them to see if they might be willing to sell it. He felt it needed to be bought by somebody who could fully restore it. His dad would not give him the $4,000 it would take to buy the car, so he took it upon himself to find it a home.

He contacted a company that dealt in Ferraris and at first they had no interest, thinking the young man did not know what he was talking about. After sending pictures and several letters, the dealer came and was shocked to find the rare car. He purchase it for $4,500 and it started its journey of restoration, joining collections, high end car shows, and now is owned by John Bosch in Europe.

It is chassis 0652 and has quite a history. We all need to thank my new friend for starting the ball rolling to save this wonderful slice of history. I looked up the history of that car and found out his story all checks out. My 328 GTS has always generated interesting car stories wherever it goes.....
