Congrats you will love it!
Congratulations , enjoy it. I always say that the 599 is one of the most beautiful modern Ferrari models in many ways. I hope you have lots of fun driving. Grigio silverstone is also a very stylish color. Also, what has been done to the car in general, has it been put into a detailed service or is yours a very well-maintained car that doesn't need it?
Well-maintained with history back to the beginning. It was due for F1 fluid service, the rest was me being meticulous. Engine oil was done in May so I did F1 system, gearbox, coolant, brake fluid and belts. I will do air filters and cabin filter myself, spark plugs next year with next oil service. I have to say this is the third F1 transmission I’ve had, which included a 360 with upgraded TCU and a late model 2008 F430 and the F1 Superfast is fantastic. So far I like it better than the numb DCT in my Cali T HS. I don’t think I will be converting this one after all!
Okay, so I must admit that I am pretty proud of myself. Replaced two sticky switches and refinished two others. My glovebox “open” switch and parking sensor switch were bad and I found NOS replacements for a decent price. The R and “auto” switches were also sticky so I cleaned and refinished those. Wiped them clean with alcohol and then hit them with two coats of satin clear. That didn’t look factory enough so I put two coats of flat clear on top.
Then I replaced the failed door strike plates with the updated Maserati ones. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
The Maserati strike plate has a metal sleeve over the pin, so it doesn’t get all tore up like the plastic one on the Ferrari part. You can see the plastic tearing off of the pin in the first photo. I actually believe the original strike plate has been superseded by the newer metal version when you look at the part suppliers.
That’s one of them. In my case it was more about difficulty closing the door. In my F430 it was a rattle.
What is the difference between the Ferrari and the Maserati strikers? I am going to replace the ones on my 612, but honestly can’t tell the difference from he pictures.
See post # 32 above. If you decide to replace yours, be sure to note the location of the original ones with a sharpie or with painters tape. Once you loosen the bolts, the nuts inside of the body will move around, and you will lose the location and have to start from scratch with adjustments. I marked mine and put the new ones in the same spot and only had very minor adjustments to get a good latch and the right gap.
Finally got my hands on some Tubi test pipes. Installed them today and looking forward to a test drive tomorrow!
Have Fabio's test pipes on my car. Really wakes it up. I also pinned the valves to be open at all times - the forza controller might have been a better option but didn't want to deal with the hassle of wiring. I do need to fix those exact buttons at some point. Congrats on the beautiful car!
Thank you. I’m thinking about just opening the valves permanently for now. I installed a valve controller on my California T and it was a real pain. Had to remove the entire rear bumper and I don’t want to go through that again! I also wasn’t real fond of having a 1980s looking remote control in the car all the time. I guess you can hardwire the switch, but it’s not going to be factory and that just requires more work to run wires.
Installing the valve controller at the 599 is easy. Just remove the rear underside panel and get the wire for the remote control unit inside the rear. Daniel
