Just got back to the office from meeting the band. Had a nice casual lunch with them here in Sydney, and i have to say, they are a top bunch of guys. They seem to be just a bunch of normal guys that are interested in making great music, and then are more than happy to go home. My employer works quite closey with their label, Parlophone, so that is how the meeting got set up. I got along well with Will (the drummer), who was giving me **** over us losing to Italy in the World Cup.. The other guys were great. Chris Martin was quiet most of the time, although he explained that its because of the Jetlag. He warmed up a little when he realised that i wasnt bringing up topics that get brought up often *eg his wife, baby names, trade policies etc... just making jokes nad being lads. We were just shooting the ****. Sorry guys, no photos.
Fantastic, good for you. Some people will say meeting celebrities is no big deal, but I always get excited about it. Only famous people I have met are Phil Mickleson, Pete Rose, the band Bloc Party, and te actor Edward Norton.
Great story. I'm not afraid to admit I absolutely love their music. Have seen them in concert a couple times but never met them. Chris has been spotted walking around NYC (where I live) a few times with wife and child (before the latest was born), but I've never seen/met any of them up close. Glad to hear the fame hasn't gone to their heads and made them pricks... A while ago there were some rumors about an imminent disbanding... Did you get any such sense? Cheers mate. J.
That is freakin awesome...Coldplay is my favorite band! I flew to go see their concert this past year in Dallas...they are a great group of guys, real down to earth. I just hope they keep on creating music, you just cannot get tired of their music, I listen to their first album, Parachutes the most, their music is trully music... Congrats John
It's so nice that some people actually make real music these days, instead of the horrid tripe that gets pumped out. Would love to meet them.
I met them a little more than 1 year ago, and talked a little with Chris Martin. As you said they are really cool and enjoy making great music, way from music stars, they are simply musicians And you can talk about any topic with them. Basically, when you don't talk about gossip, Martin enjoys it. Real Life that is. I remember we talked about London, about how to enjoy your work, goals that an individual sets up in life etc...
That is awesome!!!!! I've met them once before, and they are a really nice bunch of guys. Can't say I've had lunch with them though. I think my friends are sick of me bringing up Coldplay because I talk about them so much.
I met Roger Daltrey and John Entwhistle from The Who a few years ago. I remember that Roger was really short, and Entwhistle was wasted. I went to the concert with a friend of mine that knows the band. In the middle of the concert, Daltrey told the audience that he wanted to say hello to my friend. Next thing I know, theres a spotlight on the guy next to me and 20k people are cheering for him.
Well, i went to their concert last night with my wife. Had a ball, very very well done. The lighting was amazing, and the sound was fantastic. Alot of the songs were sped up, and the crowd was really into it. I was surprised to see Chris come right into the crowd, all the way up the back, and still sing with them. He was amongst the crowd, singing along. I would of thought he was of had security by the **** load, but no. It all made sense after meeting the boys yesterday. Not bad for a bloke worth 75M pounds
Are any of the Coldplay guys into F-cars? And did you get any free tickets to their concerts in Sydney?
Thats awesome...I love thier concerts, the way they are able to bring the crowd in just with a screen in the back and a black background... I would recommend their Coldplay Live 2003, that thing is simply amazing....also the DAve Matthews Band Live at the Red Rocks...Amazing DVD's John
Reminds me of the line from '40 Year old Virgin' Do you know how I know you're gay(not that there's anything wrong with that )? heh
They are definitely one of my favorite bands. My wife and I took a short roadtrip after getting married and listened to 'X & Y' (which I had actually purchased while running errands on the morning of our wedding day) nearly the whole way back. Needless to say whenever I hear it that trip is the first thing I think of. Everything about that trip was perfect. Glad to hear they are good guys. - Chris
Not that i was aware of. They knew about my preferred mode of transport, but they indiacted no interest. IIRC, Chris said he has a hybrid. And Will, the drummer said he just ordered a new ML merc. And no, didnt get free tickets. Paid for seats and sat with the public. I got offered access to the backstage, but Will warned me that they dont tend to stick around before or after a gig. Yes. Got it. Love it. Was blown away. Especially with the performance with Clocks and espcially Yellow. Yeah, i can understand how you get that impression of their music. Alot of their album tracks are slow and melodic, but once you goto a live concert, that impression changes. Check em out next time they are in the states. You might be surprised.
I just said it reminded me of the line from 40y/o Virgin as opposed to me actually giving a personal opinion on their music!
haha...thats the one thing people say when they ask me whose my favorite band... but yea, if anyone listens to their music compared to today's genre of music, of emo yelling or whining music, and f your mother f your father, drugs, grills!!...lol.. But their music is amazing... John
Chris has a hybrid as mentioned as well as a few mopeds he's been seen with. Guy is into Range Rovers. I think Jonny and Will have Range Rovers in addition to whatever else they have. Haven't heard anything about any of them owning an F-car.
Yeah Chris talked about his Hybrid a bit. And yeah, i got the impression they were into On Roaders. Will was talking about a new ML.
