    Hi all,

I have been lurking for sometime now. This is a great forum. As Ferrari owners I trust your opinion and I'd like to get your opinion.

I am pretty sure I have an opportunity to purchase a SuperAmerica. I have an appointment next Monday to see it. Don't have any specs yet, when I do I'll post them. I am also sure I can get it at MSRP.

Are SA's still at a premium in the used market and still desirable new from a dealer? I do not want to buy and flip but at these prices it should definitely hold it's value.

Should I buy it? I know this is a loaded question, but I would like to hear the pros and cons.

    Thanks.

Great car, buy it. But it will depreciate heavily within the next year or two just like most others. If you are worried about losing value buy a 550 or 575 which is already heavily depreciated in the secondary market.

Not to offend anyone here but I definately would not buy it. It's just a gimmick for a car that would not move. I don't think they are all that special. Don't flame me but that is my honest opiniion.

If you like the car, buy it to enjoy it. I don't think these cars deserve a premium, but i have not been watching their market. I had one of the first 550 Barchettas in the US, and while it was desirable when it first landed, issues over the (un)useability of the top brought its market value down pretty quickly. Within little more than a year, the car was trading for below sticker.
Also, these are often flavor of the month cars, or bought by people who go through cars constantly, so it's always easy to find one, very slightly used, with remaining warranty.
It is a nice car. But, I wouldn't get too carried away with the idea that you are getting a deal.
And the short answer is yes it will depreciate, even if it solved the problem of the roof that plagued the 550 Barchetta.

Man, you were FAMOUS in those days........R&T took a pic of your garage, and everything.........

Sfumato likes his...but agreed, you have to buy into the tech for tech's sake...

It's the kind of thing Fcars do at the end of the series........

I don't see much price risk the next 1-2 years, beyond that look at the Barchetta movement as a comparison. Although long term I think the SA will always be at premium over the Barchetta. MSRP is not too rare, I've heard of a couple moving at that price post dealer new (dealer has to MSRP new).

The SA is just another 'gimmick' car. Ferrari has shown a tendency to do this with the last few cars (that they can't move), at the end of every series. For example.....348 Serie Specialle, 355 Fiorano, 512M, 550 Barchetta, even the 360CS (but that happens to be a brilliant car).

Bottom line...if you like it, buy it.

I agree not much price risk in 1-2 years but as a 600 imola spider is planned I think that will significan'tly impact SA prices after 3 years assuming they're (600 imola spider ) is available by then. Also these are not really ltd production cars 559 SA + 448 Barchetta = Over 1000 cars.

SA will sell above barchetta prices for the near term, as it is much more useable. (It's one of my wanted cars on my profile). I'm not sure at the 30-40 year pt since I think the barchetta is much prettier car....

Buy it if it's what you wan't...
