That is hilarious because I did the same trade. I actually went to the SL55 because I wanted all the bells and whistles and figured it was a pretty powerful motor, unfortunately I didn't take into account the weight and the fact it just did not feel as sporty and soul stirring as my Ferrari did. So I just came back over a month ago. Welcome, as I have found, you are making the best decision.

I just bought my mother a SL55 she loves it so many bells and whistles it scares her infact she would"nt drive it for a week untill I went through it with her over and over! I must say it is a wonderful automobile but.... It is no FERRARI! I think you made a great choice!! I, like you am waiting for my new car to arrive and I have to wait till the end of the month!!!! Are you on drugs? SL55 for a 360? My wife would kill me.

 

i cant believe this im in uk and have just sold my 2006 sl55 fully loaded and am taking delivery of a brand new 430 f1 coupe in sept/oct and im going out of my mind waiting,have enjoyed the sl55 but it does not make my hair stand up on edge like a ferrari.This site has been great for info,so thanx guys,the only advantage is at the moment the uk is having a real bad time with weather rain,rain,hail you name it were getting it so the 430 would not be out in those conditions so just hope the weather is great in late sept so i can enjoy the car.Will post some oics when i get the car in the mean time i will just have to polish the rs4.

My father was a car crazed nut and mom used to love to be co-pilot well the ***** of it is dad got cancer, died and left my mom.... It's been almost 3 years and she just really missed riding in awesome cars so I thought I'd take her out and prove to her she could be her own pilot and drive nice cars on her own! Oh my it did'nt take long for her to realize SHE is and was as bad as my dad with cars! She actually went with out me and test drove this beautiful "used" ( looked perfect Mercedes factory used) sl55 and came to my office and said please help me negotiate this car! So shortly after a couple of hours she had this car and she loves it (I do agree it's way too much car but you should see her baby it.. washing waxing she even goes to benz meetings!) Hope you get some sleep so you don"t drive off the road when your car arrives! M-

Just do like I did. Go to a lot of Ferrari sites and read reviews. LOL ! And I totally agree, The SL55 is a wonderful car, Is it better than a Ferrari? IMO ummmmm, NO. It does not give you the feeling a Ferrari gives. Not once has anyone outside of a Mercedes Faithful owner ever said, " Hey, do you mind if I look in your SL55?" in the Ferrari, I get that all day.

 

I know I am going to get flamed for this, however, here it goes. SL55 (wife’s daily driver) more power, more comfy, way better seats, shifts better than my 360 F1 trans, way less maintenance and cheaper, less inception cost - alas less trading value, and lastly CRUISE CONTROL. hit hint FNA. If she had to get rid of a car it would be her 355 Spider F1 long before her SL55. Or for that matter my 360.
Heck the only Ferrari that could ever hold a candle to either her SL55 or my P turbo S was my 430. Which cars get more looks? The Ferraris of course.

She's a woman.....what can we expect . All she needs is something easy to handle and comfortable to drive and that isn't any Ferrari.

 

Why not some cupholders!!??? Cruise control??!! Has everyone forgotten these are supposed to be race cars?? Merc, BMW, these are all very fine "luxury" cars. Funny thing with the E39 M5, they had terrible cup holders, always breaking. The Germans couldn't understand the US complaining. Their thought, why are you drinking anything while driving???
As for shifting, I don't believe Merc even had a F1 or SMG transmission in '98 or '99 when Ferrari was putting them in the 355 or the 360 so of course its not as nice as your SL55.
I just don't understand the comparison of a Merc to a Ferrari.

But anyway, if you really want to compare a luxury class car to a Ferrari then compare it to either the 599 GTB or even better the 612. Now that's a fair comparison since they were all built for the same purpose: to be a comfortable daily driver car with looaads of power.

The v8 Ferraris have always been all about fun on road AND track
