Besides Ferrari 330 GTCs the only other car that really gets me chubby is the BMW 3.0 CSL. Here's the motherload: http://www.e9coupe.com/30csl.htm click on the thumbnails. Ohhhh, and here as well: http://www.e9coupe.com/30cs.htm
Is this one of those "if I get you a TR6, can I get a CSL" discussions? BTW, I made an offer on a 308 GTB Norwood turbo car yesterday. My wife is not a happy camper right now.
Actually, I'm hoping to make the cover of "Whipped" magazine, anybody got that image handy? Congrats on the 308, thats great!
Its not a done deal yet, I've just made the first round offer. I think this one will take a while to complete.
CSL's are great. They might as well be Ferraris, it's hard to find one in good shape. Rust, rust, rust.
I have a mint car that i will be selling soon if anyone is interested. It is white whith the batmobile wings and spoilers. PM me for more details
Here's a beyouuuuuuuuuuutiful '72 CSL on eBay right now: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=6056&item=4507198640&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW
I had one back when I was younger and stupider. Poor thing needed a bit of work, and I was too occupied to give it. I still love them in blue, as mine was. A part of me still misses that car, while another part says your an idiot for getting it in the first place. Here is a pic of mine before I sent it off, along with my first E24. Damn it Omar. I've thought about getting a CSL, a CSi and an 850CSi. I know they aren't good investments and can eat up lots of money in maintenance, but seeing pictures of them side by side like that isn't helping. Something about those cars just makes me smile.
We think alike. I am still kicking myself for not picking up the ///M6 (blk/blk lowered 1.2 inches on sport 18 inch rims) for a steal at around 11.5. That said, if you know anyone selling a 97 850Ci with low miles in a nice color and good maintenance history, I am all ears! I really want an 8er to park next to my 7er.
i love the 8 series. did both the 40 and 50 come with the CSI option? ive heard that the 40 is actually faster than the 50 do to the weight difference. ive always wanted a 50, but only if i could get it as a CSI. very cool cars.
The CSi was was ///M8 in all respects. It has the S70 or S70/1 V12 made by the M group producing just shy of 400hp. (its big brother engine was the S70/2 of the Mac F1). There was no V8 ///M group E31 offered. Told by some over zealous M60/M62 owner no doubt. Unless the engine was in single bank emergency mode (if something happens to the engine, one of the banks will shut down and it will run on a straight 6), there is no way the V12 is slower. No... It was just a few years ago, before I realized buying a car was only 1/10 of it, and maintaining it as well would turn me gray. As you can imagine, I still want another one. (This is a disease...)
so just to clarify, there are standard 850 CSIs in the states? if so, that is definitely on my future lists of cars. i remeber the first 8 series i ever saw, or acknowledged rather. it was a dark blue one. I was fascinated with the pillar less b column, lol. i didnt know that the mclaren has 50 genes. i new the mclaren was a bmw motor, i just never put two and two together. pretty cool
Omar, As you well know, me and you both have the same disease. I just don't have your BMW sickness. Only bmws I want are 850 six speed, or the 2002 OG version. Erik They are not as rare as you think. Because the cars are getting old, and maint on the 8 is pretty high (12 and 8), many people are unloading them. I have been watching the market for a year and have been talking to fellow F chatter and 8 series owner (frances...speedracerette), and there are many cars on the market to be had. Heck the local BMW dealer has 3 in stock right now! They are all the ugly green and one is black. I want the red only
I want to say something like 250 for each year were brought in. Several grey market cars are in the USA as well.
