but a 140 bucks for them to look up my radio code is a joke. Any one else know a cheaper route? I lost the little card I had that had the number on it.

    Thank ya,
    Ry

They charge you?! BMW parts department just looks it up for free if you can provide the radio SN number and go in person.

is it a Bekker unit? You can call Bekker directly and ask them as well (I think they charge a 10 or 15USD fee however)

+1, what a joke. The local BMW store provided me with a code to unlock the radio in a car that I had for free, over the phone, with no questions asked.

What is the point of the security if someone could steal the radio and then just call and get the code?

Your basic, entry level Alpine CD/MP3 player, perhaps? Should cost and sound about the same, unless you are a serious audiophile, in which case you probably would want something better than either system . . . ;)

Find another dealer. My Audi dealer does not charge for such services...

First, why would someone steal a factory radio. Especially many of the odd German car radios which were made for a specific model....and let's be honest, for the most part are not that good anyway.

Second, most do require a VIN and/or proof of ownership as well. No the Vin is not stamped on the radio.

Third (and an expansion of the first) most modern factory radios are in fact multi-part, with the actual "core" in the trunk or other location...stealing it would just get you a fancy faceplate in effect. These latest types don't even use codes anymore since they determined it was near pointless.
