I went shopping with the wife yesterday for a new leather sectional sofa. We went to Macy's. We found something pretty nice for about $6k. Are there deals to be had elsewhere? Is $6k a reasonable amount for a good quality sectional?

    Comments, suggestions?

I'd say - Fly out to North Carolina (where they make pretty much all the domestic furniture anyway) - pick out what you like, fly home & have 'em ship it out to you. You'll probably save 30% or more, even with airfare. Not the expert myself, but was recently visiting a friend in NC & she gave me the rundown on the couches she had purchased for herself.

I live in North Carolina, and second the above suggestion. I don't really have any locally made furniture, so I can't comment as to the quality, but I think you could do better than $6k for a sectional. Macy's is probably a little over-priced for decent quality furniture. When I was renting, I bought some furniture at Hecht's (now Macy's), and paid ~$1,100 for a sectional (microfiber), which I thought was slightly high for what I received. For a little more than $6k, you are in within range of the high-end Italian designer furniture.

Ditto. Unless you're wanting Ralph Lauren pieces (and only you would be able to tell), $6,000 is a hunk of cash for such an item.

I think $3-4k should get you a very high quality sectional.
I paid about $1500 for a top quality sofa bought directly through a manufacturer.

Find what you like and offer 50% off what the store is asking (Even at the Macy's of the world). If they let you walk, walk. The margins of what you are after are very high and stores need cash, too much comp out there.

My answer would be no. Try Blackwelders in Statesville, NC. They have been good to us. I do not like paying that kind of money for something that is worthless the moment it is delivered. Unless you intend to live with it until you die.

    Does it seat 14?

6 grand is a lot for a sectional, I'm sure you can find a better bargain, if not wait until January.

Good advice. Especially if they don't know any primates, subhuman primates, cats, dogs, or friends who have not trimmed their nails lately. After all, this is leather.

I had my sister over for Christmas a few years ago and her 180 lb Neapolitan mastiff ate/ destroyed one of my leather chairs and scratched my couch from jumping on and off of it {I suppose}. He might as well ate them both because the scratches made the couch look horrible.

I'd check out the Nebraska Furniture Mart in Omaha Neb, or the one in Kansas City KS - right next to the Kansas Speedway.
