    Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I'm looking for a sponsor and/or co-driver for upcoming events at Qualcomm Stadium in San Diego with the local Porsche club.

The venue and hosting club make for an extremely fun and competitive event. The parking lot of "The Q" has significant elevation changes and the size makes for occasional triple digit speeds. This region of the Porsche club puts on a great event and there are some very competitive cars and drivers. The SCCA also runs events in the parking lot but as I understand it the max speed allowed in their rules is around 55 mph. This is definitely not the case with the Porsche club.

In the past years “other cars” (X cars as they are referred to) were not welcome at the events. They didn’t need the revenue from other cars because there was an abundance of Porsche’s to fill these events (oh yeah ... and they were scared ;)). The economy has changed so that now they welcome X cars.

I have run my 308 down there in the past and have been very competitive based on the tire selection (basic street tire … read … “excuse”). Now that they are welcoming X cars I am excited to go down there with some competition tires to see how a properly setup 308 compares to the other cars that are at these events (Corvette, BMW, Porsche, Lotus). I could go down there with my street tires but most of the spectators don’t understand the significant difference a fresh set of Hoosier A6’s will make. I have always placed well against all other cars with comparable tires but to justify sponsorship money and get some exposure and attention we need to be in the top 10.

The top 10 times always get a lot of attention and with a fresh set of Hoosier’s my 308 “should” be up there in the company of modified Lotus's and Porsche GT3’s to name a few. I have a low hour “bagged” set of R6’s but it is almost impossible to get heat into them at an autocross. The A6’s were designed to be sticky at low temps and with an experienced driver they will last an entire season. Most of the faster guys are running these or some other flavor of competition autocross tire.

If you are interested in participating as a sponsor or co-driver please post here or shoot me a PM.

Please confirm with your accountant but for any legitimate business this should be tax deductable as advertising. If 4 tires are out of one’s budget maybe we can get multiple businesses involved.

Here's your chance to get involved in Ferrari racing ... cheap! :)

Thanks for taking the time to read this!

    Sean

    Thanks for the interest Tommy.

The next event is July 2.

    The website is PCASDR.org

They try to do monthly events. The cost of the event is cheap. I've seen you on here long enough that I'm pretty sure I'd be okay with you driving my car (if that's what you're thinking?). Just bring a nice new set of sticky A6's for my girl :). We can chat about whether or not you need to leave 'em :). If you have a business or something to promote (decals on car, etc.) I was hoping for the the tire contribution ... plus you'll have a blast. I'd also leave the decals on the car for future events. If it's just to "drive" the event and you really don't have anything you want to promote I could be very flexible with a fellow 308 brutha :) ... like bring sticky rubber and take the home with ya ... something like that? :). We need sticky rubber though! :)

Of course if someone takes me up on this we'll need to proudly display Fchat somewhere on the car ... if that's okay?

    cheers all,

    Sean

I have been tracking my 308 pretty heavily for 14 years. I am comfortable with those cars and I have all the necessary track gear, I even enjoy southern California enough to just go. Problem is July 2 is a weekend I already have booked because of the holiday.

Cool man thanks for the well wishes.

    http://results.pcasdr.org/event_overall.php?event_date=2007-11-10&database=&time_format=0#1:16.74-604

37/97 on Toyo T1R's which are not considered a "performance tire" by this club. When looking at the results anything that isn't "SS" in the class is some kind of performance tire with a low tread rating. The guy that beat me by .2 sec's in a Boxster S with equivalent tires is/was one of the chief driving instructor. The guy I beat with an RS America is/was a chief driving instructor.

It's so easy to make excuses after the event :).

    cheers all!

    Sean,

I'm always assessing different marketing venues for promoting my Ferrari removable front license plate brackets (a.k.a. "Plate Clips"). Your call for sponsors has me thinking about your situation. My ad budget may only cover you for 1 (maybe 2) tire though - or the balancing and mounting! Plus, I'd have to get some decals made up (magnetic signs?)

I'd love to cash in on some 308 course driving someday, even in my own 308 QV. I'm just a lowly "closet" racer, having once attended Bob Bondurant's 2-day Corvette instructional course 2 years ago. It was really great, not counting another time I was getting an average lap time up around 140 MPH during an 8 lap Richard Petty-Nascar "tease run" (yes, I know - all a bit pathetic). At 61 years old now, I fear I'm beyond very decent race years. But I can dream (LOL!).
Oh ya, I have no racing gear either, unless my dirt bike gear counts.
    Bob R.

Thanks for the input and feedback.

I don't have any of that fancy race gear ... just shoes and a helmet so don't worry about that. I've needed a driving suit for a while but I bought a trailer and tow vehicle that I have not used enough.

The Porsche club always makes new people take instructors and it is really a good thing IMO. 2 tires is a massive contribution IMO also! They have great instructors but if we are going to invade them I will make it a point to get signed off as an instructor at the upcoming event so we don't overload them in the future plus nobody knows my car like I do. This upcoming event might be on us a bit too soon for decals, etc. but we can put a plan together for following events. If someone wants to push for this event I'm game!!!! :)

    cheers all,

    Sean
