I guess I’ll have to call them, do you know if removing the grille can be done and allows access to the hinges to pop open the hood?

    No clue.
I have done a TON of shade tree work on my fleet but the Maranello is handled by professionals.

You won’t see me doing this ever again….
    Or pulling a transmission…
    Or doing a clutch….
I’m paying someone for that work at
this stage of my life ;-)

    What happened with your cable?

I fitted the GTCP handle recently. As a 3D printed part the finish isn't great but at least it feels strong enough.

Your car is equipped with an emergency release cable for the engine compartment lid. There is a rubber plug that you remove under the center of the grille to gain access to a looped cable that you pull downwards to release the hood latches. There is a description of it in your owners manual

The cables like loose and totally disconnected and when I inspected it it had some yellow tape on it? So I’m assuming I’m gonna need a new cable unit entirely

I think every owner should open the front and rear bonnets with the emergency cables and start their car with the pin code at least on their birthday. Waiting until you are stranded to make sure these systems are in good working order is too late. That pin code rib your belly pat your head code entry system needs to be doable in the dark at 2am out in the street somewhere.

Should one be able to get the immobilizer PIN code from a dealer? Or is it the same as the Kxxxx number on the metal tag, which I thought is the key number?

My 993tt unfortunately has the same immobilizer system, and I've been having a terrible time trying to program a new fob, to replace the single one which is acting erratically.

Call Mark at ferrarifobs.com and he can pull the PIN from your red fob or Alarm ECU/Immobilizer and help you with whatever you need. The metal tag is indeed the code for the key.

Is the PIN code a feature of US cars? Had never heard of it before.

Timmo- Yours has one, too. It is used to program a new set of fobs into the Alarm ECU/Immobilizer or start your 550 with ignition keystrokes alone if your fob is inoperative. If your three fobs all work fine, no need to ever fiddle with the PIN and you just need to change fob batteries frequently.

All the Motronic 5.2 Ferraris used the same alarm/immobilizer set-up that originally came with two keys, one red and two black fobs and an alarm PIN in the red fob and ECU/immobilizer.

Yup, sorry, I had forgotten about all this. What I remember is that the first thing I did when purchasing the car was to store a few extra batteries for the remote in the glove box along with a small srewdriver to replace the battery in the fob, just in case.

Good idea to carry an extra battery and small screwdriver, @tazandjan, I will implement this in both the 550 and 993tt when I get them back on the road..

Great, he's made some keys for me, I'll have him do that
