I need an Engine for a 1979 308. An Intake valve stuck and shattered a Piston.
Question - why don't you rebuild the existing engine, or is the damage too much. If it's just piston and valve overhaul it shouldn't be a problem?
Regarding a replacement engine, I may be able to locate a secondhand US spec 308GTBi engine for about $1100
How did the valve stick open?
my 78 308 euro dropped a valve about 8 years ago, forcing a rebuild. thats when i fitted the borgo pistons.
Drop a Chevy crate motor in there. I think they have a 575 HP version now. What a rocket!
I believe the Valve "Floated" and made contact with the piston. I was reving it around 8000-8200 rpm's. Blew Chunks of piston up through the weber and all into the intake air Filter housing.
That's why you should always replace sodium-filled exhaust valves with solid items (steel or nimonic). It was an exhaust valve wasn't it?
No. Intake valve.
Note to self, that little red line on the tach means "Danger-Danger".
Ted Rutlands/Maranello Auto Parts in Tucker, GA has rebuildable engines or just blocks/heads for sale.
