I am in the lengthy process of getting my engine back together. I used Clevite 77 plastige to check rod bearing clearances and mains. Rods run from .0029" to .0032" and mains just over .003". Would the crank bearing journals require grinding. If I need to do this will it effect the balance on the rotating parts. Also I can feel a very slight grove where the rear oil seal rides. It took over 5 months to have the engine bored, decked, new pistons, crank polished, balancing and head work. They did not indicate that I needed the crank journals
ground but I am wondering about that. Any help will be appreciated.

How many miles? I rebuilt my engine at 181,000 miles and the crank was fine. Chances are that crank will last forever as long as there was oil and the old bearings didn't show copper. If a good shop cleaned things up and balanced everything, they should have called a scored journal. The fact that they didn't is a good sign. Balance does not change if all journals are cleaned up. Piston, pin and rod balance are the critical things. Should be good to go with the proper new bearings.
