Labor Day is coming up, and I'm trying to come up with a "romantic" getaway idea for that weekend for the wife and I. Preferably in the south east area. Here is where I stand so for......

    1. Gulf Beaches, (we were there this weekend, but is a good possibility)
    2. D.C. (D.C. at the end of dog days of summer, forget it)
    3. Atlantic City (every hotel I called, booked)
    4. Chicago (possible, any ideas here ?)
    5. Charleston (never been, but sounds inviting, again any ideas ?)
    6. Chateau Elan, Ga (we tend to bore easliy, but, anyone been here ?)
    7. N.C. Outer Banks (never been, experiences ideas?)
    8. GA islands, (jekl, tybee, never been, anyone?)
    9. NO,La (we go ALOT)

I'm looking for a cool beachside town, good restaurants, ambiance, with a few neat activities also. I'm leaning towards the Charleston/GA/NC coast but I have NO idea where to start, (St. simons/tybee/outerbanks/hilton head)
If anyone has any help/ideas/experiences I would REALLY appreciate it.

    Thanks..........

Lots of fun stuff in Charleston, consider the islands south, Kiawah if you like busier places, Mercedes and Rolexs; Seabrook if you prefer an inpenetrable guard gate and more residential setting. Seabrook typically is a less expensive by about 30% or so.

Chateau Elan is fun if you are doing stuff at Road Atlanta like a school or track day. the rooms are very nice at the hotel.Otherwise it is a little off by itself.

Outer Banks are really remote, and not a lot to do besides the beach.

Any interest in Charleston PM me, I lived there for 4 years and have a house there.

Myrtle Beach is good for the teen agers, but I would not go there for anything.

Amelia Island located in Florida just south of Savannah, Georgia. It is very nice. I lived there one summer w/ a friend. There is a Ritz Carlton there and a number of good restaurants. There is one of the oldest bars in the U.S. there and many old war relics. Cumberland Island is also near there and can be reached by boat. That is where JFK Jr. got married Caroline Bissett.

John, the key to romance is to go to her favorite place (within your budget for said weekend)... Once you're there, half of your job is already done - 'cause she's somewhere she really likes to be...! i don't know what your wife is into, but maybe a picnic in a rowboat on a lake is something that would go over really well... Sometimes, nice restaurants with smoochie smoochie ambiance can only do so much... If you two are on your own, not so much in public, you can set the comfort level and not have it set FOR YOU by the competence of your waiter or the amount of traffic on the roads... Maybe some breakfast in bed or staying up late one night in your jammies, watching movies... Just doing what she likes to do can so easily set the mood, even if what she likes to do isn't so romantic when she's doing it... (ie: if she likes to shoot skeet; granted, it's not very romantic, but being able to do something she likes will certainly make her happy and happiness leads to other, similar "moods")... i say you ask her... Make the entire weekend about her... Give her a massage... Paint her toe nails... Go draw her a picture of flowers in your driveway with colored chalk... Make her laugh and smile... Pay her all of your attention, do everything she likes to do... Everything else will just come naturally from there...
