Hey guys!! Ive been asked by a client to detail his F40, now its not the best one ive seen but it can be made into a stunner! It needs several things doing to it hence why im asking FC members to help me with a few things. 1. The headlining is dropping down above the seats your head touches it, can this be fixed?? 2. the air pipes (orange in colour) need replacing where can i get them from? I will post questions as i crack on with the detail, its in my workshop for 4 weeks. Thanks in advance!! MD (Darren)
yes. common problem. there is a layer of foam between the roof panel and the vinyl liner that degrades (disintigrates). the liner can be remove... remove the old foam. apply new foam... glue in place. I had an upholstery shop do mine.
Could he be referring to the air horns? I don't recall seeing them on an F40 so I'm not sure what color they are.
Common with F40s of all types. The glue they used was.... well, not good. It caused the foam to degenerate and the whole lining starts to droop. The actual headliner panel has to come off like so to effect the repairs Simon>2 has mentioned. Properly refinished you can enjoy the contoured shape of the headliner once more... Thanks for that Joe, really big help! Today i started to machine the body work its coming up really nice, i have the car for 4 weeks to fully detail it its a mamouth task!
Ok, headling is out really easy to remove & screws in safe place!! now to re glue then clean! Paint wise i know its thin & its now looks fantastic!! as Epoch says its in very safe hands ive been a pro detailer for 13 years.
Man, they should have left it unfinished with with bare carbon kevlar composite showing instead of covering it with that beige material IMO.
Being a road car, a protective panel to prevent occupants from injuring themselves on the cross members above was essential. In the race cars - LMs etc - the cross members are of course, naked. The material that clothes the panel is actually a gray-white color, a perforated vinyl, similar to what you'll see in any utilitarian FIAT...
Thanks for the info.... Surprising how they bothered to make the inlays above the doors and the little pockets for the visors to fit in....surprising details considering the bare-bones race-car like aspect of the car.
Yes they went to great lengths with the road cars. With the LM race cars this appointment was abandoned...
