The 355 and later came with power steering, and I suppose you could find one and make it fit (track and such is likely to be different). There's a more cost-effective way, though

Hot rod shops have been putting power rack and pinion steering racks on just about everything for decades. Your setup is going to be a bit odd because it's not a 1940 Ford, but should still be doable by any competent shop. You'll need a hydraulic pump (mechanical or electric) to power the rack. Electric would probably be easier to fit.

Ask around and see who the best is in your area. If you fill out your profile, there may be someone here who can give a local recommendation. Good luck, and please post parts, pics and costs when you get it done. Welcome to the Scuderia Modificato

much as I love my 308gt4, I might go for power steering as well. Put it on my corvette and it made a world of difference. On the vette it was pretty easy, since some of the cars came with that option. on a 308, seems like there would be a good bit of engineering. not so?

I am looking into this right now for my Mondial.
What I think I have decided is that I will use an electric pump, so much easier to fit. I am stiil hunting around for a suitable donor, I will let you know if I find one !

There's been some mention that the Ford Capri and Cortina rack is the same (with different ends) as the 308 rack. If that's true, you might give these guys a call, as they offer power steering racks for those cars. The pump will still be a challenge.

No relation, haven't used them, etc.

My GT4 had very heavy steering UNTIL I got a good wheel alignment done. Then it was much lighter at low speeds, especially parking. Maybe look at this before anything else.

(Although I hate to suggest this ;)) If you have a 350mm diameter (or smaller) steering wheel in your 308GT4, you could try using a 365mm steering wheel from a TR to get a little more mechanical advantage.

Tires can make a difference as well. In my wife's TR6 we went from the old hard redlines to modern Pirelli's (which I had a redline added to) and the first time I turned the wheel, it was so easy I thought the column had snapped.

Of course, really wide, sticky tires will increase effort, especially with a performance alignment.

I'd certainly try a larger wheel before I tried to re-engineer one of the best steering "feels" ever built.

(On the other hand, power steering in a Corvette is a GOOD addition.... )

Try bumping tire pressures a little.

Also, make sure you are running OE spec tires. Wider tires generally cause the need for more effort.

I'll be putting on 16" wheels and new tires on my gt4 in the next couple of days, curious to see if it makes any difference. I'm expecting the handling to improve, but it might be at a cost of increased muscle requirements since I'm going from 14" to 16 inch. I'll report back.

88+ model Mondial 3.2s had power steering, & this may be a closer fit than the 355 system.
