So let me get some backstory on this. Today my girlfriend and I went to hang out with some friends who were participating in the worlds largest yard sale this weekend. today her and i decide to just browse around. i leave here in this booth and go to another one and was browsing around when something red caught my eye. i looked at it and was like WTF!? i snatched it up and asked the guy how much and he said $7 and i said sold. i have searched everywhere on this and really havent come up with anything except its endorsed by Ferrari. There is what I am assuming is a production number with a 7-76 inside of a box and its all metal with rubber tires. to be honest i dont care if its really worth anything i just think its a cool item.

Its dirty but I am afraid to try to clean it too much cause i dont want to damage the decals or paint

Looks to be a Polistil Ferrari 312 T2 - how big is it? ~1:18?

If this is the Polistil 1/16 scale model there is a similar one on ebay right now starting at €110. The wooden base is not original.

As I suspected - and I apologize for not mentioning that you would have to disassemble the car to remove the base easily.

Very nice find for $7.00 A search on the web will show you the original packaging and you can find the other versions that Polistil did including the famous 1:6 scale with the jar of cherries in it. Still kicking myself for not picking that one up when I saw one for sale in Lugano years ago.

Edit: the 7-76 in no way implies being a limited edition as someone on another site suggested.

I wouldn't be afraid to clean it as long as you do it with q-tips.. I always use lemon pledge on the small stuff but never spray it directly onto the car, and avoid prolonged cleaning of the decals. You could take out those rusted screws and shine them up to.

    Nice score.. :)

I have no idea how many of those were made but there aren't many Italian made diecast metal replicas of Ferraris as the vast majority of diecasts are now made in China and have been for at least a dozen years. That's a very nice find, I'd have glady paid three or four times what you did.

I recommend a bath in warm water and dishwasher soap followed by a rinse in warm water and drying with q-tips. I wouldn't resort to Pledge unless the finish is dull once it's been thoroughly cleaned. If it is I'd visit a hobby shop and ask for a mild polish or wax to bring up a shine.

You do understand that this model is ~33 years old, right?
Sounds risky but to each his own...
I'd keep it to a blotting with a damp soft cloth.

Again, sounds risky. I've no idea what is in Pledge that might attack the markings but why take a chance? Future floor wax would be my choice - and it is the choice of many modelers - I have models 20+ years old treated with it and there is no yellowing, no damage to decals.

Pledge on q-tips wont hurt it at all or stain/yellow the decals. I do this every few weeks with my displayed Polistil diecast.
Just be gentle on the decals and it really does a good job at not staining or removing the decals. You can also use a microfiber cloth on the bigger spots to avoid swirl/scrub marks. I think putting the car under water would screw up the decals because Polistil used a lot of soft paper decals and they could loosen up.

3M dust remover works well for me, but only for dust. (obviously) If there is residue or something other than dust basically, then yeah q-tips work well.
