That seems like a pretty good deal, probably involving selling off the empty legs or maybe it's one of the operators who just leaves the airplane on the road?

Okay fellas I know some of you wanted an update, I ended up at 81k from Pentastar which is local. Was ready to rock for a Gulf Stream 4 sp….thank you @Jeff Kennedy for suggesting them. They were extremely friendly and looking to make it work but unfortunately came back the next day and said they couldn’t accommodate the passenger which needed to be laying down for the flight, something to do with regulations which is understandable. They referred me to a few different companies which do medical types of flights and I’m going to reach out to them, it can just be the bachelors brother and maybe one other person the rest of us can fly commercial and meet them there if need be.

We just want to do this for the kid he deserves it, he’s persevered through a lot in life and we’re a very large strong family that supports each other always. This isn’t about us trying to act like ballers and party on a private jet, hell if it comes down to it we’ll drive we just want to do it for him.

I’ll let you guys know if we figure it out one way or another.

I'd think for $120k you could get a BBJ (Boeing Business Jet) which is a 737 converted into an exec configuration with a small bedroom / bed for him to lay down.

I know inflation has really made aviation costs go up lately but less demand for a BBJ would mean you could pay to have it sit in Vegas (hopefully) and save you the return and back costs.

Divide the total cost per passenger and it is a good deal. Moving 12-15 people requires a big jet. $10k per person to fly private round trip is cheap

Good luck to the original poster. Sounds like a good family cause. For those that fly charter is it inherently more expensive to fly international, like Mexico or Costa Rica? Some of the destinations are pretty close. I'm thinking LAX to Puerto Vallarta (about 2 hrs flight time) for a family of 4?

Pricing will vary. Some will claim there are lots of fees. There aren’t. I fly into PV all the time. It’s cheaper than the USA minus the customs fees. It costs the same to stay a month as it does a weekend.

demand at least in the UK is extremely high for chartered stuff atm, we are having an absolute nightmare at airports which are understaffed (brexit/covid related employment issues) and ran terribly.

I know several people who've chartered flights for the first time in their lives recently as groups and shared out the costs to avoid the hassle

Mexico is no big deal. I'm not sure about Costa Rica or other countries in the region, but I would guess not too bad. Where the fees really bite is Europe.

I worked for Gulfstream for a long time and the divans cannot be occupied during take off or landing and most of the cabin seats are not going to lay flat enough to accommodate someone with a medical issue that could expose the charter people to a law suit.

So expect more "medical only" verbiage to pop up. I understand your cause but FAA regulations are specific and its not normal to lay down on an aircraft during all phases of flight.

Hence a medical aircraft with a FAA approved medical bed or gurney.

Alright fellas time for a final update I suppose, it's not happening and it has nothing to do with the flights. I would rather not go into details because it's something personal with my cousin, I never even got as far as contacting the medical flights but for private it was a no go regardless, my best price ended up being 81k. We're going to do something local, we're in metro detroit so not sure how great that's going to be haha but we'll make it fun.

Thank you sincerely to everyone who contributed and tried to help, if anything it was a good learning experience for future reference!

    Sorry to hear it.

You seemed like you were excited to do something good for somebody.

Spending that kind of money... And if you were taking contributions always draws ire at a wedding.

Family members can be **** heads. It's just family. Then you start throwing that money around and people start going why aren't you giving it to the bride and groom... Or me... Etc...

Also my brother was supposed to get married in November. But they shifted to just two weeks away. Went from.big even to small event... To... I was asked not to go. That was in the last week or so. Her family couldn't get their stuff together and they wanted it even as far as representation so I was out. Lol.

He and his wife did just bring me a giant bag of groceries since I've been battling COVID... So that was thoughtful.

My point... Family and especially weddings are tough. Good luck. Hopefully you can still do something amazing for the boys.

Thanks brother, it wasn't anything like that though it wasn't about the money at all it was his physical condition in the end that kept us from doing it. We'll figure something else out, my dads side of the family is all for one one for all it's actually a really nice dynamic.

That's rough that your brother bent over for his fiancés family, just had a similar thing happen with my cousin on my moms side. It is what it is, not your life to live right?
