Title sounds weird I know, but ...

I was driving through a back country road when next to a barn I saw an old red sportscar that at first I thought, wow that looks like an old 250 of sorts. My wife had no idea what I was talking about but I told her it looks like a very old Ferrari. The car was sitting under a tree, uncovered and looks like it hasn't been moved in 40 years, it looked rough but not rusted. It had the two circle headlights (without the covers), it had a Ferrari grille and most importantly a Ferrari emblem in the middle of the grille, it was a hardtop, but the only thing I found unrecognizable is it had two bulges in the hood unlike the one bulge you more commonly see. Is a double bulge in a hood common for any specific old model? I am very interested and want to go back to the house tomorrow and see if they have any interest in selling. It is just out in the elements parked under a tree and you can barely see anything but the nose sticking out.

But basically it all comes down to that double bulged hood? any ideas? Thanks

p.s. the hood bulge was two of these on each side with about 12" of flat space inbetween the bulges: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/47/1962_Ferrari_250_GTO_front.jpg

The bulges did not have open vents in the front, like this: http://www.bodymastergbltd.co.uk/images/galleries/classic/ferrari250-front.jpg

If it's possible, could you go back to the site and take photos of the car? If you can do that then I can definitely identify the car. I know most of the models.

I can tomorrow but it's pitch black now and they'll run out with a shotgun if they see a car pull up with a flashlight at 10pm, lol =P

I am soo excited, but it's funny, there are like 3 cars parked under this very low tree that almost comes to the ground but the other 2 are covered and this red "ferrari" covered in 40 years of dust and grime is poking out just enough to get my attention but the house looks like a run down shack of sorts but it is on like a 100 acre horse farm.

Has anyone every seen a double bulged hood? typical rounded grille, not rectangle, and typical circle headlights but that horse badge and grille is unmistakable!!

    I CANT SLEEP!!!!! =D

Haha. Now you've got me riled up! That's definitely a Ferrari if it has the Prancing Horse. Make sure you get those pictures as soon as you can. I wanna see this car! :)

That's what I'm thinking, but if it is a real Ferrari the owner is crazy for leaving it dust-covered under a tree. Haha.

The only thing I was thinking if it was real was that their area looks like a lot of "old money." They have a huge horse ranch farm on many many acres in a city, so I am sure the land is worth millions. But the house it's next to is kinda ... uuuhhhhhhh. yuck. I also learned you cant judge the people by the hosue because 2 miles away from me there is this old farm house and I recently found out they own a new convertible Bentley GT. I never took the time to look in their garage but sometimes their door is open and it finally caught my eye. Just a few days ago they were pulling out of their driveway in it as I was passing by. a $250k car in the garage of an old farmhouse! Some ppl just have old money around here I guess.

But the funny thing is most replicas you can tell, even if sitting out, still would look somewhat recent. This really looked like it had 40 or 50 years of wear and tear to it. If it's a replica it looked VERY good and like it was built 20 years ago and then never washed. It in no way looked like anything recently built.

I am hoping the owners want to see it go to a nice home, lol. =) Someone who will take care of it and restore it. I am hoping this is one of those once in a lifetime barn finds =D

Yeah, I understand the old money thing. That's how it is here in Savannah. There are actually a lot of Ferraris around here, but no one seems to drive them much. lol. But the car does sound pretty real from the description you gave. I hope it works out for you and you get a good deal. If it is some sort of 250 you will make a KILLING off of it. :)

Probably an old Kelmark, but who knows. Just make sure you leave -no- clues in the photos as to the location. There are sharks in the water here...

Yeah, do go back and take some photos - but as Tillman said - do not take any photos that may give away where you are - for your own protection there. Then we can help identify the car and guide you as to what to do with it when or if you can approach the owners.

    UGH!!!!

Well first off, when I went last night it was 8pm and getting pretty dark out (you know where this is going) and secondly, the road that you drive on compared to where the car sits is roughly 50 to 60 feet away. Ok ... so here it goes ...

... it was a freakin Fiat 124 Spider with a Ferrari Horse emblem on the grille. It was bright red and as we all know they come from similar designs. Anyway, I got out of my truck and walked up to it this morning to take this picture, it would have fooled a lot of people, all until closer examination, plus even from 50 feet the double bulged hood had me thinking, never seen that before! Now it makes sense though! DOH!

Interesting. Sad to see that car treated like that. Thanks for the pictures; glad we got this dilema resolved...I can finally sleep now. ;)

Thanks for the photos. That must have been a letdown. :( But I can see where it would seem like an old 250. From far away it could easily be mistaken as a 250 Lusso.

The chances of finding an undiscovered vintage Ferrari out in the open where it can be seen is just about impossible today.

I agree and thought to myself "there is no way I am the first person to see this car resting under this tree for the past 15 years" Now, I know why =P

It could be an old Ferrari but it also could be an old old car but I'm only 12 but even though I'm young I have been in to carsfor a while and have seen some pretty sweet Ferrari models such as 360s and f430s and stuff like that. So I'm looking forward to this forum I am trying to learn more about ferraris and other supercars but the reason I like ferraris is because there are more models than lambos

That Fiat looks like its being treated better than most. At least it's under a tree!

Putting a prancing horse on that is like forging Picasso's signature on the cover of Field and Stream magazine.
