There was one at SEMA and it really is a nice car. I hope Toyota will produce it for a reasonable price.

An amazing car. In grey metallic it looks better that red. Very innovative car/platform.

Yesterday I saw a Dodge Stealth and it reminded me of the Mitsubishi GT3000 VR4.

I liked that car, and I like this FT1. But they both have a lot of body parts all over the place, in kind of a stuck on style. Just look at all the angles and edges and style.

IIRC the Stealth was just a tweaked GT3000.

I always liked the Datsun 240Z when it came out in the early 1970s.
As the engine grew, it became the 260Z and 280Z.

    The 240Z were sold from 1970 - 1973, the 260Z only one year 1974, and the 280Z from 1975 - 1978.

All of them share the same beautiful lines.
(especially the sleeker two-seater model, not the 2+2).

I owned 3 of these + a ZX (post-1978) - absolutely GREAT cars other than the rust problem (but what cars didn't have that problem then?).

Sold my last one a few years back to put the money into my E-Type. Since replaced the 240Z with a Ferrari 308 (and still have the E-Type), but I'm dying for another 240Z...in due time!

    Yup, Stealth/3000GT shared same platform.

The Japanese produced some awesome cars in the 1990s.

Mitsubishi built the stealth for Dodge IIRC. But the 3000GT was always just a tick better . The base stealth had less power than the base 3000 and the interior on the Mitsubishi was cheapish, not Fred Sanford-esque on the Dodge.

Mitsubishi was also the only one with the convertible.

The concept car is going to be so watered down when it gets to production, there's a huge problem right now, NSX was not aggressive in their Detroit opening , Next GT-R is going to be a Hybrid and possibly a FWD hybrid with rear ev motors in the hubs. Mitsu - if they make it the next couple of years might see a WRC rally Colt for the USA.

The S130 that came out in 1978, which replaced those Z cars, its still considered a Z car, the platform was updated, but it had the same engine and most components as the S30 cars you've listed. The turbo that came out in 81, was a little disappointing because Nissan didn't offer the 5spd manual, only automatics. Still the turbo did a respectable 0to60 in 7secs and decent quarter mile of 16.6 sec. It was the fastest Japanese car available in America in 81. Those performance figures not bad considering what others like the Corvette did, even in the Ferrari 308, performance wise the 280ZX was up there with them all!

My uncle has been collecting Z's since they came out. He even talked my Dad into buying a couple when new, back in the day.

Toyota needs something bold and exciting (and no, the new Camry isn't "bold" any way you look at it, despite what Toyota says), but I fear they'll pull a Toyota and either bail on the project or water it down so much by making it a hybrid, or not offering a proper transmission (read as three pedal manual), or something terrible like that.

Sorry, couple of problems with your post the S130's that were turbo'ed in the USA did come with a 5speed and most of them were opted as Auto in the states. I have seen various 5speeds for sale. The 10th anniversary and the ZX-R that were sold in limited #'s came with the opted Nissan Motorsports LSD standard.

    S30's (S31's) S130's

orginial cars came with a 2.4 and then the 260's in the 2.6 and the 2.8 motors which are drying up as people like to use the 2.8 as a bench for the 3.1 motor conversion using the crank from the LD28 motor.

Still though there are huge breaking & suspension advancements over the s30 vs. S130.

What was very popular in HKS's early history was an L28ET (turbo) conversion into the older S30's in the early hot rod days in Japan.

Saw it at the L.A. Auto Show.

    Beautiful.

Hopefully, the production model stays true to the prototype.

They offered the 5spd in 82 due to demand. In 81 when the turbo was first released they didn't offer it on the turbo and it was panned in the press and by enthusiasts.
