Through a 13 year old!!! I live in UK and collect pinninfarina. Looked up 288 and the only one I can find is on my driveway!!!
OK don't bash me --your not 13 my bad!!!!! I apoligize ... Must be getting tired and read the post wrong. Going to bed now.
I am actually nearly the big 40. I got this site from a 13 year old ranting on Vector site. The 288 was bought crash writeoff from the insurers. Whole front end smashed but got it bloody cheap. Long term aim is to get a 250 SWB but unless my Step-father dies and leaves me the whole lot I don't think it's attainable!
But its not as quick as it looks. Its a 1985 B reg but an 1983 car. If you understand UK reg plates. We now have yearly plates but in the past was different. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I assume you didn't take that pic? Its taken off the DK Engineering website a while back. I believe it was owned by Juan Barazi back then.
IIRC the 288GTO was produced from 1984-85. Do you mean it was a 1983 308 that was modd'ed to be a 288 replica? Or that it was an early 288GTO that actually shows a mfr date of 1983 on the factory data plate? In either case it was then first registered in the UK in 1985? If you provided the 5 digits of the car's serial number, then someone on here would be most likely be able to explain your car's history. You would probably learn a lot.
I think he's saying he wants a California, not that he's in California. He's also changed his "owned" Ferrari from 250 to 288 recently. Possibly a mistake when first entering in his profile, or not. Serial number & pics would help a lot.
I'm a Norwegian and my uncle is Martin Schanke. That was the only pic I could post as dont have cam working. And the car still trashed. And Yes u r right about DK. And I am certainly not paying them for a restore. I think I'm right about only being 4 in country though and maybe DK can give me answer on that. I am not in California. I was pissed when registered on site. I want a 250 but will never afford it. And ylish its meant to be original so I'm scared now. If i post chassis details can someone on this site check it out. I got it from Norwich Union insurance write off compound. If was 308 repo wld be 12,000. You have me worried now
Hi Eddie, Thanks for PM. So you are a norwegian, living in UK, bought a trashed 288GTO in DK. Amazing story!! Don't worry, chassisnumber are worlwide known. Posting it on Fchat is the best way to get some history of your car. We are only here to help you, if YOU want.
Thank got for that - I am now paronoid I've spent £88 grand plus on a donkey rather than a racehourse. Thanks for the help. What thread should I put chassis number on?
Hopefully I aint got this wrong. Also just had confirmed from other site we have 2 W8's on internet. One Genuine one not. I just hope u guys tell me I aint bought a dud!!!!
Eddie If you can E-mail or PM me the UK reg number and chassis number I'll pop it through HPI and tell you exactly what you've got and if its on the hit list or not. Regards Andrewg - Cheshire Sport and Offroad Ltd. - Ferrari & Maserati specialist
Eddie - You're starting to sound like a troll. You've been offered lots of help but you haven't given anyone any info that can be used to help you. Granted it's pretty late in the UK right now, but you say you're "scared" that you made a mistake - if I were concerned about losing GBP 70-80K, I wouldn't be going to sleep right away; I would be pulling the serial/chassis number right off the title paperwork and posting it in response to the generous offers of help that have been made. Frankly, anyone who has written a check for GBP 88K for a wrecked 288GTO (I seriously doubt anyone would finance an unrepaired salvage car) has to be a "big boy". Especially if you consider that you also had to know that repairing the car could possibly cost as much again or more, which would again be out of pocket. That person should also be better informed because he's done at least some minimum research about the purchase he's made and the reconstruction project he's about to undertake. The words you're writing aren't consistent with the person I've described. To be honest, you sound like a "little boy" and perhaps it is past your bedtime.
Agreed. Classic troll sign #1: I can't take pictures because my camera is broken but I can afford to spend almost $180000 on a wrecked 288 GTO.
