So... I did it. I obsessed about it for over a month... after I saw someone on here post about a Janus Motorcycle. I ordred the Halcyon 450. Yes... its expensive when you look at the spec sheet. I don't care. I love the look. I love that its made in the US. I appreciate what these guys are trying to put together. Ill keep you guys posted if you have any interest. It sounds like its going to be MONTHS and MONTHS before I get it. So perhaps Im a bit early sharing this info.
Bravo! Have you seen one? I have and they are really cool. I was at a vintage motorcycle thing at Barber Motorsports at the end of last year. Probably the best collection of motorcycles in the world and everyone was drooling over the Janus.
Not in the flesh. I'm just taking a dive into the deep end. I actually almost ordered 3. But tempered myself. Lol.. I figure if I hate it. I'll just put it in my office
Just finalized my build and looks like January for completion... Maybe I'll buy something in the mean time
I'd love your impressions of it when you get it. It seems pricey for what it is, but so, so gorgeous.
Not my cup of tea but it’s good to known that there are specialty companies to satisfy different tastes.
Love these things, friend just put me on to them yesterday. About perfect to my eye, it’s a 250, why wait? https://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2021-Janus-HALCYON-5021892758
I've been looking to buy a 250 while I wait. It looks like 6-7k is a good buy on a used low low low mile halcyon. You might even be able to squeeze one out at 5500. The earlier bikes I think don't have as good of a master cylinder for the brakes and people have complained. So I'd stick with as late of a model as you can get. For 9k you can order a new one and get it in like 6 weeks.
My friend Joe Cooper trained them how to build their own fenders the hand crafted way. Have any of you guys watched the documentary of the two fellas that got one with a sidecar and tried to ride it across country?
That's cool. I like the look of them as well. I see they are using the Italian SWM engines now. Didn't they used to use the Lifan Chinese engines? That's why I always discounted them.
The 250cc engines are still the Chinese engines. But they are robust and dead nuts reliable the 450s are the swm engines. I wish the 250 halcyon wasn't a hard tail. I'd buy that as well. Or I wish they built the Phoenix in a 450 because I'd buy that too!
Well it's done! I think it's in a van and getting shipped to me! Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
Thanks! To be honest... I'm kind of over it. Lol. I was all excited back in May... But I think my brain moved on. The guys at Janus were excellent by the way. So far my experience has been excellent! Maybe I'll fall back in lust with it when I see it in the flesh. I think I've just been worn out waiting for it. Lol.
This was the 1st Janus in WA State. I had it last year for a hawt minute. The current owner absolutely loves it! Image Unavailable, Please Login
Having lots of fun on this thing. I will say... I'm a total rookie on motorcycles. Two things to note... The handles bars being more hoop like and bent rearwwrds makes you understand why we don't do handle bars this way. It's just awkward twisting the throttle with your knuckles facing outward as opposed to forward. At first the tank kind of hurt my thighs but I think just wasn't used to it. Runs and rides great. It's really a lot of fun. Honestly it's enough power for me and it actually has a really good sound at midrange through the top part of the powerband. It's fun and light. The little scrambler is probably a barrel of monkeys fun
From a design standpoint, the engine is just not as cool as the rest of the bike. It immediately popped into my head that it was some sort of modern replacement.
For sure. But I don't know what engine you would put in it that would look more appropriate. If you built one... It wouldn't make as much power and it wouldn't run as well. Plus it would probably double or triple the price is my guess. I will say that the thing scoots along really nicely. It's fun to drive a slow car fast sorta concept. I'll tell you this one of the other reasons I went with the 450 over the 250 is the 450 is fuel injected... And that **** is nice. Lol
Its been raining here a bunch and today we got a nice sunny break about half way through the day. Had to make the most of it and hit the road in it. This thing is fun.
