Today I became the first one to order a 8C of my Ferrari/Maserati dealer in New York. However, they are not sure yet if the 8C is going to be sold through the Maserati network. As soon as they know they will let me know.

Nobody knows, rumor has it in the $180's in the low end and $250 on the high end.

    Stijn,

In Holland the Luxury and VAT taxes together are over 40%. I rather pay only NYS taxes of 8.675%

Excuse my ignorance but why would Maserati sell Alfa's?? and if so I wonder if the 8c will be U.S legal?

    Brian,

The GM/Alfa deal fell trough, the 8c uses a 450 hp Maserati engine, and Ferrari sold Maserati to Alfa Romeo.

I'm sure the 8C will be US legal - they need the US sales otherwise it would be very hard to make a busienss case for it - it is phenominally expensive in comparison to the current Alfa range. Furthermore the Alfa range has a very poor reputation in the UK.

I don't mean to sound down on the 8C - I'm sure it will be a great car (it sure looks good), as previous special Alfas have been (a friend had an SZ), I just don't see a business case for it not including the US.

Ferrari, Maserati and Alfa Romeo are part of the same group, Fiat group, Ferrari and Maserati are direct subsidiaries of Fiat group and Alfa Romeo indirect through Fiat Auto, 8C Competizione is federalized.

Actually is a bit more complicated, in the mid 90's Maserati was a subsidiary of Fiat Auto, Fiat Group decided to transfer the company to Ferrari that is another subsidiary of Fiat Group in order to start the restucturing of maserati based in a collaboration with ferrari and share of the main components, Maserati , Fiat Group in the past year decided to change the ownership status of Maserati and so they transfer propert from ferrari to fiat group in order to make Maserati S.p.A. a direct subsidiary like Ferrari S.p.A. and Fiat Auto S.p.A., the main change in Maserati(and also in alfa romeo) strategy is that now has two and not one strategic partners in the group, so not only Ferrari but Alfa Romeo also, Alfa Romeo and Maserati will collaborate commercially, in new products, components etc. as Alfa Romeo needs to go upwards and Maserati needs a partner with greater numbers in order to develop high quality but lower cost components in order to make profit something impossible in the partnership with ferrari(that is in a higher price range) and ofcourse expand the sales network, and ofcourse add Alfa Romeo's flexible premium floorpan and Q4 evo "Torsen-C Twindiff" hitech 4wd that could be used for a Maserati Crossover in collaboration with Alfa, as from the other part the quattroporte M139 floorpan that would be perfect in a swb version for the new alfa MB-CLS rival flagship.
The 4.7lt V8 of 8C is the first of the 'new' V8 generation, in a slightly different version will be used by maserati and in a modified 4.5lt version from ferrari f430 successor.

Actually i don't think that 8C needed USA to have success, it's such an excellent car, for me the best looking car of the last decades, and arguably the sexiest ever, but 8C gives the opportunity to return in the US in style and first of all talk about alfa in US just before the brand return, so it is a unique opportunity to reintroduce Alfa in North America. At last is an Alfa 8C, a name 8C second to no other in sportscar history.

Yes! a very beautiful design. Also Maserati's involment is very interesting as Maserati will be Built and Marketed under Alfa Romeo's Wing, rather than Ferrari's. A good business decision for all three, I hope.

GM's deal with Fiat, not to buy Fiat Auto, and pay them a penalty, if they didn't buy it, made no sense. Maybe the money went into the design of this Alfa Romeo 8C and Maserati, for future models. Maybe a collaboration with GM / Fiat, is not dead at all? I hope we get to see it soon, the 8C I mean.

    Ciao...Paolo

Wow - does anyone who has seen the car think tall people will fit in the 8c, or is it headroom tight?

    It really is quite lovely.

The normal red seems to be "the" choice, but the metallic red (Paris show car) doesn't look bad. I think with the black you would lose a little of the cars beautiful lines so why ruin it and yellow would be the worst choce.

Although no car is an investment with very few exceptions, I wonder if these cars will truly hold their value at $190K price tag. The people who are into this car seem to appreciate its classic car roots of styling, but at that price point, I wonder if this car will tank in value here in the states. Europe its a little different as Alfa has been around much longer.

I don't think that they will price it at $190K. The quoted price of €165K in Europe is including taxes (up to 40%). There is a real difference between pricing policies between the US and Europe. My guess is that the price will be closer to the Gransport than to the F 430.
