Well after blasting all you guys about not driving your Ferraris enough, I have an admission to make. I checked my odometer this past weekend against the mile markers on I-85 and guess what I discovered? While my speedometer has been recalibrated in MPH, my odometer is still calibrated in KPH. So, I have been driving my old Fiat Boxer 5000 kilometers per year rather than the 5000 miles per year I had thought. I'm debating on whether 1)leaving it just as it is, or 2)having the odometer recalibrated to MPH, or 3) having the speedometer recalibrated to KPH. I am leaning toward number 3 since my car was originally a Belgium spec car and it would have came originally all in KPH. I called Palo Alto and they said they can recalibrate to KPH and re-silk screen the face plate for $250 or so. What do you guys think?

I think Fiat feels flattered to have been credited with "building" a really cool 12 cyl Boxer.
    :)

Personally I'd leave the speedo alone. You can always do the conversion in your head.

I would just leave it or buy a new one from Ferrari UK in KMs they are maybe $150 more.

Big difference between 5000miles and 5000kms, makes it about 3000miles.

The reason I am leaning toward having PA recalibrate it to all KPH is part of my continuing quest to get it back as original as I can. Other than the speedo, the ceramic coated exhaust, clock hanging tag, inpection light and two knurled nuts of which I have both on order, is all that is left. FYI, per TRutlands Ferrari UK has no Boxer speedometers in KMH nor MPH.

    Frank,

My two cents: put it back to KPH, there is something so vintage about it being that way I think.

All this time you've been living a lie...sell the car.
Actually mines in KPH and I like it.
I get to remember how stupid I really am everytime I forget the #$$%@ conversion formula!

If they are going to bury you in this car, do whatever feels good. If oneday you wish to sell it, leave it alone, odometer " fixes " create one more story.

I think it depends on whether or not you plan on keeping the car. Who did the work on the speedo and left the odometer out of the fix? Was it done when the car was federalized? Makes me wonder about all the other Boxers out there... Good post.

Yes, the speedo was recalibrated to MPH as part of the DOT conversion by Trend Auto. I have no idea why they didn't recalibrate the odometer too? If I have it recalibrated I will leave the odometer alone so the Kms showing will be the same. Only the speedometer itself will be recalibrated and re-silk screened so I don't think there will be any "stories" at the time of resale as my service records will show a record of 3-5kms per year since I've owned it.

I think you should get it recalibrated to KPH. Then it is back to OEM specs. If anything I think this would make for less stories as this is stock.
