Alright all ... I have purchased my first Testarossa! It is a 1986 with 40K on it ... red, tan interior, good service history. I had a tough time deciding which ferrari to buy ... 348, 355, testarossa, etc.... but when it all came down to it ... the testarossa defines Ferrari for me. I feel that the testarossa is the last true 12 cyclinder ferrari (art work on wheels) and that they are about as low as they are going to go on the devalue chart! I'll post some photos later ... but I fell like a papa all over again! I just hope this child does not cost as much as the others!

here is a photo of it in the show room. I did get all the service records including an inspection done just a few months ago. I spoke with the technicians and verified the condition. Everything looks good. I even ran a BBB on the company to see what type of complaints they have ... none there.

Of course I got it at an excellent price because the last service was over 10K ago and almost 3 years. The last full service (with belts and clutch) was at 26K and 4 years ago ... the car now as 43K on it. It seems to have had 3-4 owners in its past and came from CA. it is a 1986, high mirror car with a clean history.

That is just sad to see a Ferrari with it's price stuck on the windshield like a used Oldsmobile

That car has been on the market for months......I remember seeing it back in the fall for well under $50K. The price scared me, pure and simple, so I didn't even call.
I hope it checks out OK, if so, great buy on your part. You are right on, the Testarossa is THE Ferrari of all time in my opinion. I miss mine already.

I was thinking the same... ugh!

But, it also looks pretty stunning sitting next to a Jag X-Type and an old Benz.

Congrats - the high mirror especially is a very cool touch. Hopefully everything checked out OK and you can get that lovely serviced and on the road!

(I think you also got the only year without those stupid, built-to-fail motorized seat belts.)

Yes the early Testarossas have a lot going for them. Manual seat belts are one, and they also have more knee room under the dash since they don't have the "package tray" like later cars do. The single lug wheels also look nicer than the later 5 lug wheels. And that dog-gone single mirror is the most unusual of all. I also think that the miles on this car are genuine, which is good. Cars that have been driven are usually more completely "debugged" than garage queens. How many TRs out there truly have the low miles indicated on the odometer? If all checks out I think this will be a great car. And remember it's NOBODY'S BUSINESS what you paid for the car (although I'm sure it's well bought). Just enjoy the car and drive it often. The smiles-per-miles factor is your reward for getting a Testarossa! Wecome to the club...!!!

Well done RSKDSK, I know you're thrilled and hope you'll subscribe. Car looks great. You planning to drive it home?

Carguy - do you or other knowledgeables (just made that word up) know if LATER TRs can be converted to manual seat belt without a major pain in the patootey? (Sorry to use technical terms.)

The motorized mouse was never my favorite. Funny the 328 never went there, but same era TR adopted this "convenience". Curious if it has or CAN be done. Thanks in advance.

    Great going RSKDSK.

You guys are right - I HATE THOSE STUPID MOTOROZED SEAT BELTS!!!

I asked a couple Ferrari dealers to install the regular seat belts but they wouldn't do it because of liability reasons. And I really don't want racing harnesses which are too cumbersome and most probably not even legal.

If they did not have alot of snow ... I would think about driving the 400 miles, however ... TR + snow and Ice ... I am thinking transportor. I have yet to finalize the shipping ... need to find someone who works the east coast, and that is trustworthy.

Hello AHudson: I did convert a TR to an aftermarket manual set of belts and it was a pain to do. But if you buy a factory manual belt system, along with the interior panels (not the same as automatic belts) you could convert things over quite easily. At one time there was a salvage yard in California that had a complete manual system for sale for about $1k or so, this included the interior panels below the rear windows, and the center condole lid without the slits. My current TR has had the automatic seat belt recall and so far they have worked perfectly. If they give me trouble I will probably convert over to a manual system though. The parts you'll need can come from a Euro car or an early U.S. 1985 to 1986. In 1987 the automatic belts were introduced.
