even thought my local dealer was unable to obtain any confirmation from PCNA or PAG (written or otherwise) as to whether or not they would actually build the car........but they were willing to give me their allocation for the only car they would get if it is eventually produced.

PAG may be wary of building anything that would be sure to eclipse the CGT in performance for half the price.....but who knows.

Having said that, what is the general consensus here, rumors and otherwise, that you guys have heard from your dealers, et al, as to whether or not we F-chatters think this car will be built ?

Funny that the GT3 is out already.....but any commentary on the GT2 is non-existent.

Nice! I am correct in say that the 996 GT2 was faster than the 996 GT3?

Won't be built, sales were very disappointing for the 996 and the "widowmaker" reputation has Porsche worried.....just like the CGT does. This is why the HP increase on the 997TT was so minor.

The GT3 was a fire breathing dragon.

The GT2 was a turbo charged all wheel drive fire-breathing dragon on crack who could not feel pain.

Except that the GT2 was rear wheel drive.

I have no special info, but I'm not expecting it to be made. They could sell a lot if they delivered C-GT performance, but that would dilute the C-GT and it's too soon to do that. With just a tweak in performance, they would do no better than 996GT2 sales volume and Porsche has been so profit focussed these last few years, a sub 200-unit special model would be low on their priority list.

    Shark01.....

Don't know where you got your information from, but Porsche sold every GT2 they made (and while it tanked in the resale market) the 996 was the best selling 911 of all time. The GT2 accident rep is true however.

    Yin.....

I'd be sorely disappointed if all they did was tweak the 997TT with their X50 cash grab....err.....power kit.

just to make sure, they would give you back your deposit if porsche ends up not making the 997 GT2 right?

It would just be credited towards a different car if that happened.......I am sure that the car will be built though.

I've already spec'd it in my head......it's just a waiting game now.

    Kds,

Is your order transferable, or is it a you build or walk. I am thinking of doing a GT3, just like to know if I change my mind I can turn it and not waste my time and deposit.

I have no idea ? I do know that after 2003, P seriously dropped GT2 production, to just a few units. I think it was 20 in 04, and 5 in 05 ?

They damaged the GT2 market, with the advent of the X50. With 04, they did put a little more room between the two cars. However in actuality, the GT2 is NOT just a 2wd lowered and lightned 996 TT. The chassis is also welded differently. I believe it is a special seam welding ? As of late, the nice 996 GT2 autos, have stabilized in price. The CGT has quite a while to go, before it has stabilized in price.

Rumor has it that the GT3RS will be coming to NA. The car may also sport a widebody, in lieu of the standard GT3 regular body. I do not know how they will get this car past US DOT standards ? I doubt PAG will crash enough GT3RS autos, to sell a few cars with rollbars and lexan windows. It would be very nice, if PAG just put the trick parts inside of boxes, and labeled the parts, for racing purposes only. - That way the real animal could make it in under the radar.

Yes, but they made far fewer than planned, and many sat in showrooms for a long time.

    carless....

"I" have to buy the car.....but if they cannot deliver one, the deposit just goes against the next car I buy......(I buy 6-8 cars a year from them).....it's a policy most dealer's will go along with however I'd imagine, even if you only plan on buying one car, as they don't lose you as a customer.

    Ralph.....

PCNA said in their e-mail......"we have not released the car"............it's a kind of "wishy washy" answer that leads me to believe it'll actually arrive since they didn't say "no way".......so maybe we'll see one in 2007 I hope. It's hard looking for answers and information right now.

The X50 cash grab.....royally f***ed the GT2 market as you pointed out, and you're right, as the GT2 is a significantly different, and much better car, on many counts that most people do not realize (IMHO anyways). A shame really.......and a marketing blunder of immense proportions. Maybe they'll price the GT2 for a lot less this time around.

I like your idea of a kit in a box, kinda like the back door race parts program from the big 3 in the 60's.......I'm really amazed at the amount of street 996 GT3's with the correct race seats, cages, etc, etc, running around.

So many cool cars coming out in the near future.. even without a 997 GT2 you'll have plenty of vehicles to purchase and have just as much fun.

    Audi R8 (2007)
    Acura NSX (2008)
    Lotus Esprit (2008)
    Lexus GT 450 (2007)

Just a few Supercars coming out in the near future.

p could avoid 'dangerous' handling reputation on gt2 by adding traction control that is completely on-off user controlled. already have it on tt so shouldnt be too hard to adapt to rwd. would make the car a lot more useful. even ferrari cs models have it and thats as hard core as it gets

I kept my deposit at Bert Smith back in '01 when my X50 came in. I am number 1 there for the 997 GT2 and I can't wait. Anyone know when it will be out?
