I am looking for something almost exactly like this 348 Challenge that could be street legal in California.
    http://www.miamioffices4rent.com/cavallino/invent/082347.htm
It is my understanding from Martin that a 355 Challenge cannot be USA street legal, and my priority is to be able to register this car for use on the street, so I am looking for a 348.
I don't care about race history, but I would like the car as equipped with all (or at least the hard to find) Challenge parts. I am not interested in an unconverted Challenge car, unless it has all the goodies uninstalled but included by some chance.
I am not going to race the car, I already have 2 race cars, which are headache enough.
Please send me a private messge if you know of or have anything for sale.
( I am not interested in the one from St Louis, it is too butchered for me, however I was starting to consider the green and black one from Texas, but it was sold, which is just as well. It was not street legal)
    thanks, Jay

It was my understanding that the 95 355's were the only year you could make them street legal. A DC area member actually just sold his not too long ago. Good luck.

Well as I said, you can check out our F355 with all the goodies of a Challenge car, yet the ride of a street car, the looks of a street car and the bite for the track. F-40 brakes in the front, fixed bushings, sport suspension setup, roll bar behind seats, 5-point harness besides regular belts, performance chips, optional with Challenge rims or stock rims, CATs removed (comes with original CATs in box). 30K service in 1/04, new clutch in 1/04.
This car will get you scared on the track and your wife happy on the road.

    :)

Unfortunately Byron's car is no more :)

Let me also clear up the misconception of Challenge cars being street legal.
No race car, or changed race car is ever street legal. Not a 95 F355CH nor a 348CH. Just because you get a physical title to the car does not make the car legal to drive. Yes, you can register the car since you have a title but if DOT catches you on the road and they really want to get you they absolutely will!

Well... that's NOT exactly true! The car is going to another owner in Seattle, who will be fixing the damages and continue driving it on the street.

Well, I certainly can't opine on street legality in CA (and Martin makes some good points here- you can in some states get a tag for a 348C or '95 355C, but whether that makes the car street legal is another question), have you checked out the 348C on offer by Exoticars in Pittsburgh? I took a quick look at it at Moroso in January during the Cavallino track event, and although it wasn't stellar cosmetically, it was all there, more or less. I beileve the car Debbie mentions at FoA is one of the "Challenge" cars that never had the kit installed nor turned a wheel in anger.
I assume you know that most Challenge cars have been rolled into a ball at one time or another- it's tough to find one with straight tub. They make "hair shirt" street cars- solid suspension bushings, tiny sidewalls, LOUD exhaust, etc., but I'm sure you know all this. You should also be willing to ignore the sticker on the side of the roll cage (assuming it's still there) that basically says "You may NEVER drive this car on a public highway".

    There was a yellow/black 348CH in Ferrari.Ads for a long time.

In Texas near Rob Lay's neck of the woods. Don't know if it ever sold.
    Unraced example IIRC.

The Attorney General has spoken....LOL....a fellow 348Challenge DRIVER ! :)

Ira has a point here. Likely you will never be bothered. Hell I drive my 355CH on the street on slicks and with full race decals. Never been bothered neither has Ira or anyone else I know. Well with the exception of Bon, the former owner of Byron's car, who got ticketed while we were in a convoy in the Keys. That HP officer was driving next to all three of us for several miles and we were going right at speed limit. Then he finally pulled Bob over for:.....
    .....
    .....
    .....an excessively noisy exhaust!

    Go figure.

The exhaust and slicks would be the main problem, IMO.

Geez, Martin, I'm trying to keep a low profile here- don't blow my cover! Discretion is the better part of valor, right? Seriously though, I don't drive my car on the street all that much- largely just to and from track events (and my mechanic's shop, on an all too regular basis until I finally get it sorted out).

I JUST BOUGHT A 1991 CHALLENGE, It was campainged by Ferrari of Washington and Jim Kenton, won the 1996 Challenge. I am told that want even get you a cup of coffee, but i like the histry of the car, plus it appears to be straight, has a new engine, michalloto drop gears, and all of the goodies. No air, oil is run through the condensor.

This car is loud, rough, hot, and fairly fast. I have driven the car for four days and over 900 miles on the street. i am addicted. cops love it, no problems at all. I thought the noise would be an issue, but no problem so far.

It is at Ferrari of Atlanta for servce now, and i plan to leave it there so I can drive over to the Walter Mitty and Ferrari Challenge. I hope to meet other Ferrari enthusist there, so please email me if anyone is interested in driving.

There's a 94 listed for sale at www.motorclassiccorp.com. It's listed as having "all the upgrades". I guess they mean, upgrades to make it like a 355Challenge even though it's listed as a 348. No idea.

I'd forgotten about the one at Motor Classic, which someone in Montreal had for sale a while back. Now that I think of it, there's also the ex-Derek Hill car for sale (again) in CA- see ad in Ferrari Market Letter for details, but I think it purported to be CA legal (I'm skeptical, as I vaguely recall that this car was pretty heavily modified after its Challenge career ended).

    Ups sorry :)

Hey you would drive it more if you'd spend more time in sunny Florida than in rainy Maryland :)

...and did I tell you I love the blue tape? Seeing all the cars at Sebring with the tape gave me the idea to invest in 3M. All you track guys will make me rich !!!! RICH, I TELL YA!!!!!

Martin: Just trying to delay the inevitable front spoiler repaint. If you invest in the trackside blue tape concession, you'll be better able to buy that 360C in no time!
