Yeah, I like the 430 but the 360 still is my favorite. But at the end of the day they are just cars. Get you a 360. I wanted an F1 at first, but ended with a 6 speed. Don't regret it one bit. I love the sound of the shifter hitting the gates.
"I think I made a $160,000 mistake! etc." While I don't detect any braggadocio, if this were repeated to an elder, in no time flat, you'd hear, "Are you bragging or complaining?" 410SA is right on all counts.
I know how you feel....I left a girlfriend once...she was hot 110 pounds, perfect body and beautiful, but it just wasn't the same as my curvy, 278 pound girlfriend with soft hair under her armpits.....whatever makes you happy! Lol Just kidding!
Maybe you can drive a 6MT 360 to see if it is really what you thought it would be. If so, then buy the 360. Either way you'll be happier and be able to put your mind at ease. You made the best decision at the time with the information you had. It's always easier to second guess after the fact.
I *love* my 6-speed 360, esp. in "Sport" mode. At the time, I drove the F1 355 and F1 360 and decided the right leg needed exercising on a regular basis in a 360. I suspect you may want to find someone willing to trade up? Up or down, it depends on one's perspective. Good-luck.
Many thanks for your insightful thoughts. I realize this is trivial matter on all fronts but let's face it; what ISN'T trivial about grown men taking time out of their day to sit in front of a computer and discuss their exotic cars which 99.9999999% of the human race will never own? Let's not throw stones as we all live in glass houses, so to speak! In any event, I sincerely meant no arrogance by my original post and apologize if it came off as such. As a previous poster stated; " sellers remorse is worse than buyers remorse" which was really the issue I was trying to get at. I was simply curious as to how the guys who sold the "better" car for an earlier model felt about it afterward. As to my decision to jettison the 430, I am going to do it as soon as I find the right 6 speed. I spent most of last night in my hotel room scouring the internet to get a feel for the current 360 market. Damn, on average the prices seem rather aggressive - but that's an entirely different thread. -Cheers
There have only been 110 Ferrari owners so far? (assuming 110 billion people have ever lived, the high estimate on Wikipedia)
Hey it's a car site and we are here to talk cars. The 430 to me looked better from the rear than the 360 which was boring in that regard. The front of the 360 is just more harmonised. You can get a manual 430, some were made.. From a looks perpective, rawness and performance a boxer is the way to go, but it is not exactly a daily driver for doing 11k in a year. The 355 is more raw than a 360, but its styling from the front could be a toyota mr2, actualy the mr2 is better. The rear though is pure ferrari. It seems you want two things, a raw enough car, or at least a certain degree of viceral driving experience, with enough civility still to do big yearly mlieages, the 360 probably hits the sweet spot for you. As to its handling vices, in reality no one sane is expolring those limits on the street so the point is somewhat moot, unless you live somewehere with big roads lots of forward vision and no cross streets, ie not in the USA. Fot DE the 430 is probably better. Since you like porches maybe a gt3 also covers all the bases, except perhaps art styling. Back to the 360 then or find a manual 430.
Ain't that the truth. Of course, I often wonder if 99.999999% of the population might know something I don't! Is this a passion or a disease! I didn't think you were being a braggard in your posts, but generally speaking its good to keep in mind that not everyone here are owners, some are just lovers of the marque, and others are prior owners who are no longer in the financial position to purchase such a car due to circumstances that may be out of their control. Accordingly, its always good to be mindful of perceptions and sensitivities when posting, but again, I didn't think you posted, nor intended to post, anything obnoxious. Its all good and this is a far more interesting and appropriate topic then lots of the other crap that clogs this board!
Given that this is "Ferrarichat", it is completely logical that you would, as a Ferrari owner, post a legitimate question about the marque, requesting insight from others who are presumably experienced with the cars in question.
I faced a similar dilemma last year when my number came up for a new 430 F1 Spider. I too like the looks of the 360 better. While the performance of the 430 is superior, I never drive the 360 at the limit anyway and seldom take it on the track. In the end I just didn't think the 430 was worth $100k+ more than the 360 which suits MY needs. For $100k there are lots of other cars I can buy and still have the fun of owning a 360. I got an F1 because I have a stick shift on my Porsche. The F1 system is the best in the business and much superior to the Tiptronic in the Porsche IMVHO. So I have the variety of having both a stick and an F1 which works for me. I can totally understand why someone would rather have a 360 vs a 430. the nice thing is we have a choice. Different strokes for different folks. Get what you want. There really is no "right" answer here other than your taste.
Get a manual shifting F430, you'll be glad that you did. I don't like the soft looks of the 360 too much unless we're talking CS. A F430 looks way more exotic and aggressive, the torque is addictive and safer handling. If I was to trade down then I would get a 308gtb or 328gtb euro models, lower them, better brakes and either turbocharge or supercharge the damn thing. Maybe a 208turbo if I could find one or if Jim G would sell me his!
well said!! good luck finding what you want...bought the M5 when it came out after watching Tiff on 5th gear thrashing it around a track and exclaiming "what a car"...sold it after 2k miles as the SMG was more like WTF...10 cylinders or no, still like to do my own shifting.....cheers!
I have a 996 Cup and a DP04 IMSA Lites car which are a bit more fun on the track than a street car! But I agree than the 430 F1 transmission is ridiculously fast and smooth. I'm going to be on the road for work & vacation for the next 5 weeks, so I've already made arrangements to bring the 430 up to snuff to be put up for sale when I return home. 360, here I come!
You didn't make a 160k mistake. You made 160k minus whatever you sell the F430 for mistake. You had me going for a minute with your title. I thought somebody sold you a clunker for 160k.
