With taking the metal taken out of my foot last week, the last two days have been horrible. My foot REALLY aches bad and this really sucks! I am on crutches, ice it and do all the things the doctor told me to do, but it aches and I can't sleep worth crap! With a bottle of strong meds at hand that I don't want to start taking, what do I do to get rid of the ache and how long will this keep up?

I understand you not wanting to get hooked on pain pills. If I were you I'd try over the counter meds and see if they give enough relief. Ibuprofen is a lot more effective than you might think.

Personally, I don't like to take pain pills either, until it's a question of being able to sleep. I'll deal with the pain during the day but getting a decent night's sleep is as important to the healing process as anything. If you only take the prescription pills once daily before bed, you won't be nearly as likely to get addicted.

STFU and stop being a pansy. Are you a man or Richard Simmons? :D

When I got my shoulder surgery, I didn't take any stupid pain pills and it bothered me for a few days, but that's it.
When I broke my leg (no pins, though), I couldn't even feel it. Until they put me in a fiberglass cast too small, too rigid that pressed right on the broken bone. Had it removed after 2 days. Back to normal plaster cast ... broke 4 over the course the 4 weesk because I kinda walked on it. :D

I'm wearing one of those too. I was kind of running in my house and slammed my big toe into one of the columns in my living room. It moved some bones around. The boot helps me walk by putting the weight in a different area of my foot.

They gave me a steroid dose pack, it has helped some but some pain pills would be nice.

I have to go to physical therapy tomorrow. The doctor thinks that the physical therapy people can get my bones to move back where they belong. It doesn't sound fun.

Get two bottles of good scotch and a Montecristo A.

Smoke slow, drink fast, see which you finish first.

I shattered my left femer about 5 yrs ago. Had it reconstructed with a central rod and screws in my hip/knee. Honestly, it took about a year for it to feel right. Now, I can run, etc. I never, ever experience any pain now. The elbow that still has screws in it however flairs up very occasionaly (like once every 6 months to a year). Don't worry, modern medicine may still appear barbaric but the end result for these types of things usually ends up being ok. Good luck and be careful. Don't rush the recovery by trying something stupid...

BTW, since you are already worried about getting hooked, good chance you won't. Just take the damn pills and get some sleep. Your only hurting yourself.

WADR. If I could match Richard's bank account, I just might ask him for the name of his haberdasher and his hair dresser.
