Just released. HOT OFF THE PRESS 05 Mustang stop shipment Ford Orders Stop Shipment Of 2005 Trucks, Mustang Due To Defective Engines - Ford GT "40" Alleged To Have Defective Cylinder Heads 07 September 2004 Dearborn, Michigan. Robert Lane Sources at one of Ford's engine plants told BlueOvalNews that Ford Motor Company has instructed assembly plants to stop shipping certain 2005 model year vehicles because they can contain defective 4.6L or 5.4L engines. BlueOvalNews was first altered to the problem after we received a news tip at the end of August. The products that can contain the defective engines include the 2005 Ford Mustang GT, 2005 F-Series, 2005 F-Series Super Duty, Ford Expedition and Lincoln Navigator. Ford has instructed the assembly plants to stop shipping vehicles until they are screened to see if they contain the defective engines. It is not known if any products were shipped to consumers before the problem was noticed. The 2005 model year 4.6L and 5.4L engines in question were built with defective cylinder heads. According to sources, the defective cylinder heads will have an adverse effect on performance and will cause the engine to fail to meet Ford's specifications. It's not immediately clear if Ford will replace the entire engine at the assembly plant or just replace the defective cylinder heads and approve the vehicle for shipment to customers. A Team Mustang source told BlueOvalNews that a stop shipment order means that Ford won't ship GT Mustangs to dealers, but it doesn't mean that Ford will stop building Mustangs - they can still build V6 powered models until problems with the 4.6L engines are corrected. Further, even though Ford officially launched JOB1 of the Mustang today, shipments don't occur immediately. "Somewhere within two weeks after Job #1 we have an OK to ship meeting where all the upper management on the program proclaim the vehicle is OK to ship. . . .launching a new vehicle in a new plant can have its issues. That's just part of what a launch is all about.", said our source. In what could prove to be the most devesting news; however, is that the Ford GT "40" is alleged to have cylinder heads that contain defects in the combustion chamber pocket area. According to sources, Ford is allegedly making design changes to the cylinder head and will create a new casting which is targeted for release by 01 January 2005. Rather than issue a recall for the Ford GT, Ford would most likely issue a TSB (technical service bulletin) and repair the vehicles only as needed. Look for an update on the GT heads at a later date.
Gee, I am shocked. LOL. They should have just taken their 5.8 windsor and supercharged it. I ran that motor in my mustang and it was a daily driver that was extremely reliable. It had ~600hp. It ran 10.2s at 135 in the QT all day long. The windsor block is very simple and very tough.
I doubt very much the truth of that article. The typos and spelling errors are a tip off but there is more in there that leads me to believe that it is untrue.
AJ based on this: http://www.fiagt.com/results.php?season=2004&event=8&session=Race%20Result I'm glad I didn't buy a Murcie GTR and held out for a MC12. As for the Ford GT having driven one all I can say is I wouldn't try to follow it around a road course.
Normal first year start up woes. Takes awhile, but you know that. The Vipers had 2 years of improvement before they dominated for 4 years, with 3 straight Lemans wins. It will come. But I buy cars for the street, not for the track, so doesn't mean a thing to me. Now if your going to enter that type of racing, I guess its a factor. And I guess my comment to you would be, what does the Murci GTR or MC12(race cars) have to do with combustion chamber problems of the Ford GT? I get confused easily. I'm looking for a street supercar for the USA, not a track car for wherever the MC12 is racing. Is the MC12 even street legal in the USA right now?
This was the Maser's first race. It took a bit less than 3 years. It will come? When VW slaps a Lambo body on a Seed 8. As for the Ford GT the combustion chambers in the one I drove seemed to work just fine. The MC12 is not yet street legal in the US but.... RE: "3 straight Lemans wins." First in class is a bit different than winning LeMans.
Again, I don't race cars in Europe, or even on the ALS here, so I don't care. I was simply posting info that I found interesting to the Ford GT. What the race cars have to do with this topic......well, I guess I still don't know. I never get excited about supercars that aren't legal here. But thats just me. You do, thats terrific. Race it overseas till your content. Me, just looking for an American Supercar to putt around with. And like my thread indicated, I think I will wait until the problems are sorted out. First delay after delay, frame problems, and now this. Dont know if this is true, but my dealer friend indicated today that it was .
I'm way more impressed by the GT3RS times than the MC12 (sorry if I can't go by the GM-like re-badging ... but it's a very personal issue, and not a performance one). About the GT ... I guess all I can say is held in AJ's pic. They circled the problem. LMAO!
Well , in fact , the Modena won the NGT ..but was disqualified ..so be EVEN more impressed by the Ferrari time which i dont have
P's are, and always have been terrrific esp. around a track. In this race they came in first in class. For the $ the Ford GT is VERY impressive. It's electronically limited to 205 but ran at Nardo in the teens. It feels fast and a bit like the old days compared to the Murcie, which is as fast, but to me seemed more "Turbine Smooth" than "Slam" fast. The only thing the Ford needs IMO is a better exhaust note but that will come. Around a race course the Ford GT will leave anything but a CGT and an Enzo behind. IMO the Gingerman/Luguna times are there in the production version maybe faster. Andrew If they make it US legal I'm down for one.
The article came from BON (Blue Oval News). The site is owned by a disgruntled ex Ford employee. Many of his articles contain just enough "fact" to keep him from getting sued again by Ford. BON is known to be the National Enquirer of the on-line automotive world. Most ignore 99% of what he prints. That said, after much berating on the BON forums, the owner Robert Lane did finally state that the story on the F150 and Mustang was factual, but the one on the GT is just a rumor. A worker at one of the plants actually came in and stated that BONS article was a blatant fabrication as the lines were shut down due to a shortage in a part that is used in both the 3-valve 5.4, and the 3-valve 4.6 heads. The GT heads are 4-valvers that come from an outside supplier. Anyway, I would not take anything that BON says to mean much in reality.
Gloria Thanks for clarifiing what some of us have known for a long time. As someone who owns an original (J6) I know how great those were. As I already own an original I really wasn't planning on getting a new one. After driving the new one I very well may replace my daily driver (Maser Coupe) with one. The Ford GT is very impressive. Best
I believe both are replicas- the Cobra club visited Jim's shop the same day as the 'Enzo Who?' gang...
Unfortunately, the sad fact is that most dealerships know much less about their products than the enthusiasts who buy them. Another funny thing about the BON article is that they say there is a stop sale, and that there will be a recall. I find it hard to see them issueing a recall or stop sale on something that hasn't even been delivered to dealerships yet. As a matter of fact, the Mustang only started production on September 7th, with the "official" first sale date of September 23rd. The '05 F150's job one date was about the same as the Mustangs. Napolis, that is a very nice looking collection you have there. I only wish we had such a nice place to work on all of our projects (too many projects and way too little time). Oh............ I need to tell you guys HI !!!! This is a nice site that you have here. I have lurked for a while, but finally got around to registering. As an automotive enthusiast, I enjoy perusing all of the manufacturers enthusiast sites.
Thanks !!!! I lived in the Valley for 31 years, mainly in Mesa and Gilbert. We have only been in Payson for 1.5 years. We thought this was a good place to raise our (now) 2.5 year old. We love it up here, and have a fantastic view of the rim from our rear deck. Sorry to get off topic.
Already posted by gloria, but the GT problem was only a rumor. I'd take anything off Blue oval News with a grain of salt. They get good stuff once in awhile, but a lot of their sources and finding are questionable. Gloria, recognize you off camaroz28.com . RE5.0 (now Gold_Rush) here.
Delays don't bother me. Rather have that and a right car than the other. But this frame problem stuff, I've never read about that. Do you have a link that I could read?
