Some people like the extreme Lambo look, some people like the more subtle Ferrari look. The two will NEVER meet. Both can exist on the same planet though. Personally, I'm an F car fan --and never liked the Gallardo, ever. I don't hate it, it just doesn't do anything for me. The Italia has some outstanding potential to light my fire. I'd really like to see it in person.
no offense to anyone, but you've just met someone who thinks the 308 is ugly, infact one of the ugliest Ferrari's EVER IMO...again no offense just my .2 cents! Didn't bother reading all the pages to see if anyone else feels the same.
jaysus, mary and guiseppe, the 458 restores my faith that f has not lost it, what a righteous gorgeous design... after the pig mold 430, it is a home run
Eh? No. You said it yourself, Lamborghini compete with Ferrari. That doesn't mean they copy. They both have entirely different and distinct directions as far as design goes. If you think that competing equals copying then then you could just as easily take that from either direction. So, obviously then, Ferrari are copying Lamborghini! But, of course, that would be a silly thing to say... And nicking the odd idea like a glass engine cover is hardly the height of plagiarism. I mean, that one wasn't even Ferrari's idea in the first place. And as for "The perfect example is the Gallardo a car made to compete with the 360." Seriously? Can anyone remember the name of the first mid engined two seater supercar? You know, the one that set the template? The one that everyone else has been copying ever since?
+1 This thread is out of control! A Gallardo a rip off the Enzo!?!?! As stated by others, I see competition between F cars and Lambo, but not a copy. BTW, The Superleggera is the competitor to the Scud
I think the 550-2 is a more appropriate competitor to the Scud. 2WD, lighter than the standard car and it has a stripe!
In my experience, cars that looks like a catfish or cockaroach arebeautiful cars. (P3, XJ220, E-Type, 275, Birdcage 75th, Maserati GT) The 458 looks like both, so it's beautiful in my opinion.
cant argue with the technology point. but look at the car itself, its got Gallardo's basic proportion, front end and rear quarter treatment. i look at the difference between these two cars as the difference between a camaro and firebird(before the gm 'corporate' engine)!! Ferrari WAS the benchmark we all know these companies have been competing since Lambo established themselves, but never copied each other. -not from a design standpoint in the past the only cars they built that resembled each other was the Urraco/Silhouette/Jalpa line and the 308 gt4, but thats no surprise as these cars were designed by the same people at basically the same time. i am definitely not the type to get on the manufacturers bandwagon. they arent doing anything to promote me, i had to pay for my Ferrari! my preference is Ferrari because of the combination of style and race history -technology that trickles down into their road cars. you'll never catch me h8'n on Porsche or Lambo -i love those cars , but i really feel that if the Gallardo had the pace-car Mondial's belt line, and its hard edges softened, you get the 458! the Gallardo influence on the 458 is kinda like that tiny chip in my paint job. nobody seems to notice, but everytime i look at my ride -its all i see i really appreciate the passion here on this post. there is no right or wrong here and i am glad that we can all debate without insulting each other, thnx! p.s., check out the traditional Ferrari taillights BEHIND the horizontal strakes of the protoMondial, how cool would that have looked in the back of a Testarossa or 348! Still beg to differ. Consider the 550-2 is a new model, and not a superlight. Topgear feels the same: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldsG-bgmMKY&feature=PlayList&p=5D598AD9D4B7D2BB&playnext=1&playnext_from=PL&index=12
I don't think the 458 is ugly by any means, but the design has left me scratching my head some. Previous V8 Ferraris have all had continuous lines for the eye to follow. And they intersect at appropriate places. The 458 has a bunch of lines that begin and end without connection. It's a big departure. It also removes side air intakes which is a first for mid engine V8's. From photos, it looks like the greenhouse does not blend as well into the body work as previous models but I'll wait to actually see one before making any solid opinions. I don't see any connection to Lambos whatsoever which is a relief. Ferrari design always gets more discussion than any other marque. They have awfully high expectations to live up to. Dave
They've been doing it for decades. The Reventon at this years Frankfurt show is POINTLESS. Its being unveiled there just to try & upstage the 458.
At least it IS a design departure as opposed to Porsche's way of making every model they make look nearly the same from many angles. The 911 has had the same basic design since the 60's...and I am a Porsche owner! Viva 458!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As has been said before, probably worth waiting until we see it in the flesh. I agree that in many of the pics the front end is just plain ugly. But then I saw this and had completely the opposite reaction... And why such a fuss over three tail pipes. 2, 3, 4, 5, who cares. Image Unavailable, Please Login
It's starting to look better these days to me with these new pics Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'm having the opposite reaction. In your post, the front bonnet looks too big and like someone put it on upside down! I like the rear 1/4 view better than in the factory shots though. Dave
I don't like it at all, it looks like a kit car, but i didn't like the Cali and 612 as well before seeing them live so i hope i will change my mind, as of now it really looks ugly to me.
Total absolute sellout, job done! Dealers are now having issues selling the last few remaining new 430's in stock, *might* just get a bargain if your in the market for one. Out of all the new models [Of which i like all of them] the California is the nicest for mine, love metal folding roofs. its so choice!
I love the hateful posts from people who will never be able to get one but would give their right arm if they could.
Just another day at a gas station I got a comment from some elderly guy driving Avalon that my car was "stupidly ugly and with enviromentally irresponsible gas mileage" (CGT Speed) I responded by thanking him for the comment and wished him a happy day.
